‘Super Star’ Mahesh Babu’s action drama film Guntur Kaaram (2024) was an average venture at the box office. Releasing on the Sankranthi weekend, it received highly negative reviews from both critics and audiences. While experts predicted a competitive crash, the film fared decently on weekdays too; this can be attributed to the festival season, family content, and of course Mahesh Babu’s incredible box-office stamina in pulling audiences to theatres.
After a decent run at the ticket window, Guntur Kaaram premiered on Netflix across the five major languages of the country; in contrast to the word-of-mouth it received upon release, it received a mixed-to-positive response from streaming audiences. And surprisingly, it attracted good viewership from Tamil and Hindi audiences too.
Having said that, fans are convinced that, though it is miles away from being Guruji’s best work, it is not as bad as people claimed it to be. Now the film is set for a litmus test through TV audiences; the Trivikram-directorial is all set for a grand premiere on Gemini TV on the auspicious festival of Ugadi. It’s interesting to see how the small-screen viewers will react to the wrath of ‘Ramana Gadu’.
