Siddhu Jonnalagadda: TFI’s Next Big Thing?

Siddhu Jonnalagadda needs no introduction! Particularly after the success of DJ Tillu (2022), he has emerged as a star among youth. This crime comedy, which he co-wrote with Vimal Krishna, was a ‘Smash Hit’ and provided him with a much-needed career break. Following its success, a sequel titled ‘Tillu Square’ was crafted with Siddhu reprising his iconic role.

Releasing in March 2024, the film emerged as an outright ‘Blockbuster’ grossing over INR 100 Crore and now, it is safe to say that ‘Star Boy’ Siddhu, the franchise’s lead actor, is now a ‘Star. In fact, he has every chance to emerge as Tollywood’s next big sensation! Unlike other actors in his league, Siddhu seems to be quite choosy in terms of script selection. The fact that he hasn’t had a single release between DJ Tillu and Tillu Square speaks for itself.

Even after the historic success of the latter, he is reportedly not on a signing spree. As announced before, he’ll be next seen in a romantic drama film titled ‘Telusu Kada’. Helmed by debutant Neeraja Kona, it features Sreenidhi Shetty and Raashi Khanna as the female leads. Besides this, Siddhu is also signed to feature in Bommarillu Bhaskar’s action comedy film ‘Jack’.

Both of these ventures look promising, and the promotional content released so far emphasises the same. And of course, he is set to play ‘Tillu’ again in the franchise’s third installment, ‘Tillu Cube’. Clearly, the funky actor has had his career properly planned for the next 2-3 years, and we hope his envious success journey in films stops soon.

Thandel: The Last Hope of Akkineni Fans

It all began with Nageshwar Rao, a young man from a small village in coastal Andhra who made his way into the entertainment industry and, in no time, emerged as one of the prominent actors in Telugu alongside Rama Rao. Best known for his roles in romantic dramas, he is regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation. And deservingly, he was honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the country’s highest award in the field of cinema.

Like another public figure, Nageshwar Rao too dreamed of a descendant who could carry his unparallelled legacy forward; Akkineni Nagarjuna, his youngest son and a notable actor in Telugu with a significant fan following among the masses, succeeded in doing so for the most part. However, he has had a strong inclination towards experimental films, particularly in working with debutant directors and choosing scripts that aren’t mainstream; this habit of his has not just ruined his market but also led to a decline in fans.

In the meantime, the third generation of Akkineni has landed in style: Naga Chaitanya. After a passable debut with Josh (2009), he went on to star in multiple commercially successful films, but they weren’t good enough to establish him in the top league of stars; in fact, he faced a setback in his career with multiple flops lately. On the other hand, Akhil, Chaitanya’s half-brother, is complete troll material. Barring the romantic comedy Most Eligible Bachelor (2021), Akhil has had a disastrous career, to say the least.

To conclude, the Akkineni fans barely have anything to celebrate, with all their heroes struggling to deliver a descent ‘Hit’. This is particularly significant when comparisons are drawn with the actors of the Nandamuri and Mega families, who’re ruling the box office time and time again. Having said that, the hunger of Akkieneni fans continues to grow, with Naga Chairanya’s Thandel becoming their only hope.

Bankrolled by Geetha Arts, this romantic drama film features Sai Pallavi as the female lead. A prestigious project, it is made on a massive budget with the aim of catering to audiences across languages. Directed by Chandoo Mundeti, the film’s music is composed by ‘Rockstar’ Devi Sri Prasad. The promotional content released so far has been promising, and it must be seen if this project will satisfy the decades-long hunger of Akkineni fans.

Hi Nanna wins Prestigious International award

Nani’s Hi Nanna after becoming a box-office success last year has now started its victory run of awards. The film’s English version ‘Hi Dad’ has received the prestigious award for Best Feature Film at the esteemed Athens International Art Film Festival in their March 2024 edition.

Hi Nanna managed to impress the audience and performed well at the box office becoming Nani’s 2nd hit of 2023 after Dasara. The film was well appreciated for Nani’s performance and perfect blend of emotional narration and drama. After this award, there are high expectations on the film to win many more in the upcoming awards season.

Director Shouryuv made the movie a wholesome family entertainer with heart-touching emotions. Nani gave one of the finest performances in the film, co-starring Mrunal Thakur and Kiara Khanna, who also gave superb performances. Vyra Entertainments bankrolled the project and has a chart-buster album scored by Hesham Abdul Wahab.

Hi Nanna performed well on its digital premiere as well. The film was up for streaming on Netflix in January in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The romantic drama managed to create huge anticipation not just in Telugu but in other languages as well.

Tantra starring Ananya Nagalla is a dark socio-fantasy thriller released on March 15. It is now streaming on Aha Video. Kismar starring Srinivas Avasarala is arriving on Prime Video and Aha. Tamil Music Director cum Actor G.V. Prakash Kumar’s Rebel is about to stream on Amazon Prime Video. This film also stars Malayalam actress, Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. Chari 111 starring Vennela Kishore and Samyuktha Vishwanathan will stream on Amazon Prime Video. Thulasivanam web series starring Siddharth Gollapudi episodes will be streamed on ETV Win.

All low-budget films are facing a nightmare at the theatres as people are not ready to watch them in the theatres. They are coming to the theatres only if they start getting unanimous positive responses. This is seriously damaging both small film producers and exhibitors as well. The theatre owners are failing to even recover rents on the weekdays. All the above-mentioned films didn’t perform well in the theatres. No one knows if they perform well on the OTT as well.

NTR coming for Tillu Square success meet

Family Star Day 1 Area-wise box office collections

Family Star starring Vijay Devarakonda and Mrunal Thakur was released yesterday. The film had received a poor response and the talk was very divided. The film’s advanced books too told the same story before the release. Its performance on Day 1 is also no less than them and let’s look into the box office collections area-wise.

Family Star Day 1 Telugu States Share is as follows:

Nizam: 1.8 Crores
Andhra: 1.6 crores
Ceeded: 0.45 crores

The total Telugu State share stands at 3.85 crores. The rest of India+ Overseas is around 2.5 crores. The Total worldwide share will be around 6.35 crores.

This is a poor performance considering the performance of Vijay Deverakonda’s early films. The budget, star cast, and combo of Vijay Deverakonda and Parasuram didn’t even excite the audience which is utterly shocking. Everyone expected the film to become a big blockbuster but these numbers indicate a different story.

If the same momentum continues for the weekend then it may well become a big flop. The break-even mark of the film stands at 45 crores and the recovery made on Day 1 is only 14%. So much is needed to be done by the team to rescue themselves. They had already planned a felicitation ceremony for real-life Family Star.

The advance bookings and even day 1 openings are not at all encouraging. The trade is expecting the film to become a disappointment for sure. Now this result has made Naga Chaitanya and Allu Aravind happy for a reason. Let’s know why.

Family Star director Parasuram and Naga Chaitanya joined hands for a film before Sakaru Vaari Paata. Parasuram picked Mahesh Babu over him and did Sarkaru Vaari Paata. Naga Chaitanya stood by him and encouraged him to do this film. But Parasuram didn’t work with Naga Chaitanya afterward and worked on Family Star which angered Naga Chaitanya. The Actor openly said that Parasuram wasted his time and it was a waste of time to speak about him.

On the other hand, Parasuram signed a film with Allu Aravind but he worked on Family Star produced by Dil Raju. This has angered Aravind as well and he too came out strong against Parasuram saying some directors don’t stick to their words. Now Family Star’s disappointing result has made both happy and they might feel Parasuram has learned a lesson.
