Sankranthi has always been one favourite release season for Tollywood for several years now. The festive period has given the film industry several blockbusters and industry hits over the years. While last year’s Sankranthi was a damp one owing to several postponements and no biggies releasing, Snakranthi 2023 more than made up for it.
Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy were released for this festive season and saw tremendous collections. While Veera Simha Reddy opened massively, it started losing momentum as days passed. The Chiranjeevi starter though was on an absolute box office rampage as emerged as the Sankranthi winner and amongst the Top 10 Tollywood films collections-wise.
After SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Baahubali 2 and Baahubali, The Top 3 non-SSR movies all belong to the Sankranthi season now. Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo released for Sankranthi 2020 is the first one on this list with an impressive Rs 159 gross worldwide share. This action entertainer is the Icon Star’s highest-share movie.
Next in line is Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru. Directed by Anil Ravipudi, this project was also released for Sankranthi 2020 and collected an impressive worldwide share of Rs 138 crores.
Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya is the other top 3 non-SSR Tollywood movies to have been released for Sankrathi. This action entertainer collected a share of Rs 129.2 crores and gave Chiranjeevi much-needed success.
