Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 has given Bollywood trade circles a much-needed breather. The film has emerged as a massive blockbuster and has surpassed Rs 200 crores at the box office. This year has been quite dull for Bollywood and along with Drishyam 2, only Brahmastra and Bhool Bhulaiyya 2 managed to get the cash registers ringing.
On contrary, all other Industries have been dishing out Blockbusters one after another. Coming to Drishyam 2, the investigative thriller collected Rs 100 crores in just four days and held steady on weekdays as well. Positive reviews along with solid word of mouth helped the film immensely.
Drishyam 2 is a remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam blockbuster of the same name. Jeethu Joseph directed the original while the remake has been directed by Abhishek Pathak. The film stars Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Akshaye Khanna in key roles. It revolves around how Vijay Salgaunkar ‘s family copes with the reopening of a murder case that refuses to stop haunting them.
The Malayalam version and its remake in Telugu starring Venkatesh were both hugely successful. Both films, however, didn’t get to see this kind of box office success as they were released directly on the OTT.
