Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 is all set to release tomorrow. The first part was a massive hit in Tamil Nadu and became the highest grosser but the same magic couldn’t be repeated in the Telugu versions. Ponniyin Selvan 1 also performed well in Tamil Nadu and overseas but was not a grand affair in the Telugu states.
The movie’s unit is aware of this gap and in order to boost the film’s buzz, a grand pre-release event was held in Hyderabad which was attended by the entire cast and crew members. Similarly, Ponniyin Selvan 2 also needs to perform exceedingly well in Hindi in order to achieve breakeven numbers and a lot is riding on positive reviews and good word of mouth.
The 2nd part needs to collect at least 650Cr gross for hit status . Now, the question arises if the film can manage to score well on both these fronts despite the lower-than-expected buzz. The advance bookings are also not as per expectations considering it’s a sequel film. Compared to this, movies like Baahubali 2 and KGF 2 created massive pre-release buzz and the advance bookings were extraordinary.
The film will mark the return of Cholas and will pick up from where the last part ended. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi will star in this Mani Ratnam directorial. AR Rahman is composing the music for the film.
