Worrying times ahead for theatre owners

Tough times for AP exhibitors and distributors are just not seeming to end anytime soon. The second Covid wave coupled with occupancy restrictions has added to the worries of theatre owners.

According to reports, in Srikakulam, only morning and matinee shows are playing that too with only 50% occupancy. Theatres in Vizag and many other areas have shut down and only certain theatres in the rest of AP are still functioning. Even Telangana theatres are facing a similar fate with many theatres in Telangana set to shut down after this weekend. According to a distributor, all theatres will be shut down very soon across the two states with few exceptions.

Another major reason for these closures is the lack of any new releases. Post Vakeel Saab, Tollywood has not seen any major releases. Barring a few small-budget films, none of the movies released this month. A number of big-ticket movies such as Love Story, Tuck Jagadish, and Thalaivi postponed their releases in April.
