Varisu and Thunivu released for Pongal 2023 amidst massive expectations with fans eager to watch Vijay vs Ajith clash once again at the box office. Both the films received mixed reviews and it was the stardom of Thala and Thalapathy which got the movies off to a massive opening despite mixed word of mouth.
Varisu opened with above-average reports and Thunivu with average reports both movies were affected by pre-festival and mixed word of mouth. On opening day also Thunivu had a very good opening and Varisu, comparatively had a lower opening. The second day saw further drops in collection due to the working day effect. However, both these films are expected to grow big on festival days.
H Vinoth has directed this heist action drama Thunivu while Boney Kapoor produced it. Thunivu/ Thegimpu marks the third collaboration between Ajith, Vinoth, and Boney Kapoor. Prior to Thunivu, the trio worked in Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai. Apart from Ajith Kumar, the film features Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, and John Kokken in key roles.
Vijay’s Varisu also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sarathkumar, Jayasudha, Srikanth, Sham, and Prakash Raj in key roles. Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Cinema is bankrolling this project directed by Vamsi Paidipally.
