The Indian OTT viewers can now watch the world popular series Game of Thrones on the Reliance JioCinema app, as it will be ready for the streaming in Indian languages soon. According to reports, Reliance has signed a deal with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content to its JioCinema streaming platform. This partnership between Reliance’s Viacom18 and Warner Bros would allow HBO content as well as Warner Bros shows to be available on JioCinema, which includes popular shows like Game of Thrones, Succession, and the upcoming Harry Potter series.
It’s worth mentioning that the HBO content was previously accessible on the Disney+ Hot star app. But the partnership between the two streaming companies ended on 31st March.
As per the reports, the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed officially, however the inside reports have at it that it is an exclusive one and will see most of Warner’s content on the JioCinema platform. It means Warner Bros cannot offer most of its popular shows to other Indian OTT platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Disney Hotstar. Simply put, you will not be able to watch Game of Thrones on any platform apart from JioCinema.
JioCinema, part of Reliance’s Jio platform, has expanded its offerings to include a wide variety of content from India and globally. JioCinema is expected to gain a significant edge in the Indian streaming market by offering popular Hollywood content to its users through this deal with Warner Bros Discovery.
This move by Reliance also comes at a time when the Indian streaming market is becoming increasingly competitive, with giant platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Hot star all having a larger share of the market. JioCinema is looking to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading streaming platforms by attracting more users with this new partnership. The streaming app is expected to see an increase in subscribers, similar to how Disney+ Hot star saw an increase in subscribers when it started streaming HBO content.
