Akshay Kumar, the well-known Bollywood actor, has been granted Indian citizenship on the Independence Day, as he announced on his social media accounts. While sending Independence Day wishes, he captioned the post saying, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day.”

The Canadian citizenship has always been a source of criticism against Akshay Kumar. Earlier this year, during an interview with a Media channel, the actor said that India means everything to him and that he has already asked for a change of passport.

In the 1990s, he experienced a period of leanness in his career when he delivered over 15 consecutive failures, which led him to apply for Canadian citizenship. Due to not voting in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his citizenship status was under intense scrutiny.
