Director Sudipto Sen’s directorial, The Kerala Story, hit the screens on the last weekend and since then, it is always in the news for many reasons. The film’s storyline raised a massive controversy, with a few states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal banning it from public screening.
On the other side, the film’s run at the box office is super consistent as it is getting the numbers in a range which no one would have expected. After a week of its Hindi Release, The Kerala Story movie is releasing in Telugu today. Now we will have to wait and see will the movie will be able to create an impact at the box office in Telugu states or not.
As said above, The Kerala Story is rock solid at the box office with collecting 81 Crores net in its first week and the only time that director Sudipto Sen’s this controversial film recorded a single-digit collection was last Friday, its first day in theaters — such effective has been the film’s momentum at the box office that on day six, it actually showed a growth over day five. This is the second consecutive day that The Kerala Story surpassed yesterday’s collections.
Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani, The Kerala Story was earlier officially described as the story of more than 32,000 Kerala women who have been allegedly been radicalized by Islamic fundamentalists. However, the number was changed to three from 32,000 after protests spread online stating that misinformation was being spread by the makers.
The Kerala Story movie revolves around Shalini Unnikrishnan (Adah Sharma), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), and Siddhi Idnani (Geetanjali), who share their room with Asifa (Sonia Balani) in a nursing college in Kasargod, Kerala. Asifa, who is an aide to ISIS, how indoctrinates and brainwashes the three girls and converts them to Islam and what happens to them is the main crux of the movie.
