Mohanlal is the biggest superstar in Kerala cinema undoubtedly, he is the only hero from Kerala Film Industry to have 100 Cr+ grossers. His movies Puli Murugan and Lucifer are still the top grossers of Mollywood cinema, but surprisingly the biggest star’s latest film alone failed to collect even prints and publicity costs.

The film was blatantly rejected by the audience, as there was hardly any theatrical share for the film. Being a superstar Mohanlal should think multiple times before signing a film. These kinds of experimental films can be directly released in OTT instead of theaters which makes a lot of difference in the result.

Because if they release a movie in OTT, its success and failure will not reflect the hero’s image as it will already make money by the OTT platform.

The film Alone marks Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal’s eighth collaboration. A partnership that began with the 1997 action drama Aaraam Thampuran, the 2009 crime thriller Red Chilies was their last work together.

Alone is set against the backdrop of the Covid-induced lockdown. It’s the beginning days of the pandemic, and everyone is discovering ways to cope with a new normal.

Kalidas (Mohanlal) is a motivational speaker, who moves into a new residence in Kochi. Since he moved into the apartment during the Covid-19 lockdown, everything is dealt with in calls. Shortly after settling into the apartment, he hears the voices of two people—a mother and her daughter (Sreedevi and Anu). Das has a strong feeling that there is a reason the spirits are in the house. He quickly digs up to know why he is hearing the voices.
