Thalaiva, Stop Taking Risks!

Rajinikanth, after facing a string of box-office bombs, made a strong comeback with Jailer (2023). Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film emerged as a mammoth commercial success, setting numerous records internationally. As announced, he will be next seen in a project helmed by ace director Lokesh Kanagaraj. However, he chose to do an extended cameo role in a film directed by his daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth: Lal Salaam (2024).

The film had low buzz before release due to poor promotions. Following a mixed reception from audiences and critics post-release, it is headed towards a major disaster at the box office. While the original registered significant opening numbers, the Telugu-dubbed version crashed on the first day itself. While the ‘Super Star’ must be lauded for his intention behind starring in his daughter’s directorial, it is evident that he is putting his stardom and buyers at high risk by making such moves. This is far more concerning considering the fact that he has faced constant flops and has just revived his market with Jailer (2023).

It is known that he has agreed to do a guest appearance in Raghava Lawrence’s film, directed by his younger daughter, Soundarya. This has put not just fans but also trade experts in high tension. Why is the legendary actor putting buyers at risk? Wasn’t Kochadaiyaan (2014), a high-budget experimental film directed by Soundarya, a satisfying result?

As fans and well-wishers of Thalaiva, we hope he understands the misery of buyers and stops doing such acts. Instead of playing cameo roles, Rajini can provide creative input during the pre-production phase or take part in promoting the film, which may result in good openings.
