Boyapati Srinu’s Skanda starring Ram and Sreeleela emerged as a failure at the box office as the rights were sold at very huge prices. But, if we put pre-release business aside and see the collections Skanda has recorded, it’s quite impressive. Skanda has collected around 28Cr share till now which is very good for tier2 heroes. Even for Ram, it’s his 2nd biggest grosser after Ismart Shankar.
What’s unique with Skanda is that normally if a tier 2 film movies opens with mixed/ bad reviews, then the film will close under 20Cr in most cases. And in a few cases, these films run a risk of closing even under Rs 10Cr.
Even a few medium-budget films with positive WOM have closed under 25Cr. But Skanda has collected 28Cr with mixed talk which is a great sign. If only the theatricals were valued a little bit realistically, it would have been a great result for the makers. The collections that this action entertainer by Boyapati Srinu has done so far should come in as an eye-opener, especially for tier-two films.
Skanda has so far recovered just around 60% of its business and chances of breakeven are extremely slim.
