The trend of sequels is working big for Tollywood even for the small and medium budgeted films. It was popularized with Baahubali and continued with Pushpa 2. Now, MAD Square is arriving on 28th March following the same trend. This film is carrying great buzz and hype.
In Bollywood, sequels like Gadar 2 and Stree 2 have also become blockbuster hits recently. Both films ended up becoming the highest grossers of the year. In Kannada, KGF Chapter 2 created a sensation, and now Mollywood is bracing up for its much-awaited film, L2: Empuraan.
But unfortunately, this trend is not working well for Kollywood. Films like 2.0 and Ponniyin Selvan 2 failed to achieve success like their prequels. Indian 2 which released recently with great hype outrightly got rejected by the audience becoming a big disaster. But, interestingly, sequels like Jailer 2 and Kaithi 2 are raising hopes for Kollywood and we have to see how things go then.
