Hrithik Roshan, a phenomenal Indian actor and producer who shines in Hindi cinema. Often referred to as the millennial superstar, he is widely celebrated for portraying a diverse range of characters and showcasing truly incredible dancing skills. Starting from 2012, he has even appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list several times based on his immense popularity and income. To date, he has won an impressive six Filmfare Awards, four of which were for Best Actor.
Early Beginnings and a Blockbuster Debut
Interestingly, Hrithik made brief appearances as a child actor in several films during the 1980s. He also worked hard behind the scenes as an assistant director on four of his father’s films. However, his life changed forever when he made his feature film debut in a leading role with the massive 2000 box-office success Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. Because of his stunning debut performance, he earned the highly coveted Filmfare Awards for both Best Actor and Best Male Debut.
Rising Stardom and Critical Acclaim
In 2001, he went on to appear in the grand family melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Remarkably, this star-studded film finished as India’s highest-grossing movie of the year and became one of the most successful Bollywood films in the overseas market. Following a few less successful projects, his career saw a major turning point when he starred as a mentally disabled teenager in the commercially successful 2003 science fiction film Koi… Mil Gaya. This outstanding performance won him numerous Best Actor awards, including two Filmfare Awards.
Becoming an Action and Historical Hero
Subsequently, he starred as the titular superhero in the massive hit sequels Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013). Furthermore, Hrithik received his third Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 2006 for his thrilling performance as a clever thief in the action blockbuster Dhoom 2.
He later received immense critical acclaim for his powerful portrayal of the Mughal emperor Akbar in the epic 2008 period romance Jodhaa Akbar. For this incredible role, he received his fourth Best Actor award at Filmfare, as well as his first international award at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival. Ultimately, these incredible accomplishments have firmly established him as a leading contemporary actor in Hindi cinema.
