The upcoming Amazon Prime Web Series features Samantha as a Tamil speaking militant who has ties with Pakistan’s ISIS. Samantha’s fans though have stood behind their star and are showing solidarity.
A large number of social media users, primarily Samantha’s fans came out in her support. They trended #WeSupportSamantha in the actress’ support and urged everyone to first watch the show and later agitate.
This depiction of Tamilians did not go well with a lot of netizens and they trended #ShameOnYouSamantha and #Familyman2_Against_Tamils on Twitter. Adding to this MDMK Member of Parliament, Vaiko wrote a letter to I&B minister Prakash Javedkar. He was seeking a ban on the web series for hurting Tamil sentiments.
Meanwhile, Samantha has maintained silence on the issue and has chosen not to speak about her role. It is reported that Amazon Prime Video has requested her to not speak anything till the show releases.
Recently, directors, Raj and DK spoke to the media and said that there was nothing controversial in the show. The duo requested people to watch the show and depiction of Samantha’s character and then come to a conclusion.
