The pre-release event of Ponniyin Selvan 2 was held in a glittering ceremony yesterday in Hyderabad. The event saw the presence of Mani Ratnam, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, and Jayam Ravi. The cast and crew of the movie spoke at length about the film and the support of the Telugu audience.
Speaking about the scale and grandeur of the film, Mani Ratnam said that it was SS Rajamouli who paved the way for pan-India films to be made on such a scale. Had Baahubali not been made in two parts and become such a success, it would have been difficult for him to envision Ponniyin Selvan in two parts.
The monstrous success of Baahubali gave the makers of other films like Ponniyin Selvan, KGF, Pushpa, and Robot the direction to produce and release on a grander scale on a pan-India level.
Ponniyin Selvan is all set to release on 28th April worldwide. The advance bookings of the film are not so encouraging, Mani Ratnam and co. will be banking on positive word of mouth which can get the film off to a grand start at the global box- office.
