All doors closed for Puri Jagannadh?

0

Double Ismart directed by Puri Jagannadh released yesterday. Fans and Audience had high expectations on the film before the release. But the film received negative talk and feedback from them. The opening day performance of the film, even with a holiday advantage of Independence Day looked not so encouraging. Today’s performance too looks the same and it also feels like the doors getting closed for Puri Jagannadh.

Puri Jagannadh’s earlier film, Liger was made on a high budget and sold for record prices. But it became one of the biggest disasters of Tollywood and also a nightmare for Puri. Puri, in order to recover the losses started making sequel for his blockbuster Ismart Shankar in the form of Double Ismart. He roped in Ram immediately who was also in a bad phase with disastrous performances of Skanda and Warrior.

Theatrical rights of Double Ismart have been sold for 54 crores worldwide. With this performance, the film looks unable to achieve even the breakeven mark let alone becoming a blockbuster like Ismart Shankar. Puri Jagannadh who wanted to overcome the heavy losses of Liger will have to meet even more losses with Double Ismart. Distributors and Exhibitors who earlier staged protest against him will come for him without any doubt. It needs to be seen how he tackles them.

Double Ismart and Mr. Bachchan: Huge Disasters!

0

Over a dozen Indian films have hit the big screens to exploit the long Independence Day weekend. Of them, Puri Jagannadh-Ram Pothineni’s Double Ismart and Ravi Teja’s Mr. Bachchan are the big releases from Telugu cinema.

Both of these flicks carried good expectations before release, but the word-of-mouth post-release came out to be mixed. Considering this, experts predicted a decent theatrical run in their first three days of theatrical run. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

After posting poor numbers on day 1, these films crashed on the second day, and Sunday’s bookings are disappointing too. While Double Ismart’s worldwide share is likely to be around INR 15 crore, Mr. Bachan is struggling to make a double-digit share. Having said that, not even a 25% recovery will be made by these films, thus pushing distributors into heavy losses.

0

Hari Hara Veera Mallu Part 1: Sword Vs. Spirit is a historical drama film starring Pawan Kalyan in the titular role. Helmed by Krish Jagarlamudi, it also features Nidhi Agarwal and Bobby Deol as the female lead and antagonist, respectively.

Needless to say, the film’s production was halted multiple times due to Pawan’s unavailability. However, here’s some good news for fans: This project has resumed production on August 14, 2024; a high-octane war sequence is being choreographed with 400+ fighters, supervised by Stunt Silva. The deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh is expected to join the shoot very soon.

A. M. Rathnam is funding this film on a very high budget; confirmed by the same, this will be the first of the two-part saga. M. M. Keeravani has been roped in to compose the film’s background score and songs. The release date is yet to be finalized.

Saif Ali Khan glimpse released from Devara

0

Devara starring NTR and directed by Koratala Shiva is one of the most awaited films of Tollywood. The film is currently under shoot and is scheduled for release on 27th September. The team surprised everyone today with the glimpse of Saif Ali Khan from the film who is playing a pivotal role. The Glimpse was also released on the occasion of Saif’s Birthday.

Saif plays the role called Bhaira who was shown menacingly throughout the glimpse. Malayalam Actor, Shine Tom Chacko was also seen in a fight scene in the glimpse. Anirudh Ravichander provided an interesting Background Music for the glimpse as well. However, Saif’s look resembled Sonu Sood who played a role in Koratala Shiva’s earlier film, Acharya. Sonu Sood and Acharya were greatly trolled back then.

Fans and Audience have also been comparing both the characters already. But Koratala Shiva would have made sure that they are not the same. Coming to the part of Devara’s making, NTR has been recently injured and may take some time to finish his part. The Actor also has to finish War 2 and NTRNeel simultaneously. He will take some rest and get back to work as soon as possible in the future.

Hollywood Actor Praises Ram Charan – Here’s Why!

S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR (2022) was a pop culture phenomenon, to say the least. Particularly in the United States, it received a rave response, with a lot of high-profile Hollywood actors, writers, and directors going gaga over this action drama.

Very recently, Lucas Bravo, a French actor best known for his role in the American television series Emily in Paris (2020–present), heaped praise on ‘Mega Power Star’ Ram Charan for his performance as ‘Rama Raju’.

“I was so into RRR. The main actor, Ram Charan, is a fantastic actor. The stunts he performs and his emotional presence on screen are breathtaking. The film went to the Oscars, and Ram Charan is fantastic in everything. He has a great screen presence,” said Lucas Bravo.

0

The winners of National Film Awards have been announced today. These will be presented for films released in 2022. Many saw their names among various Award categories in the Film Awards. But One actress has at last got her long due today in the list with the Award. It’s Nithya Menen who has finally won the prestigious National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam.

Nithya Menen has been known for her fine acting performances in many roles she did across all South Indian Film Industries. She starred in all languages in the lead role as well. Today, she has finally won the much needed award. She once got an opportunity to act as Mahanati, biopic of Telugu Actress Savitri. But the Actress opted out which then went to Keerthy Suresh. Keerthy Suresh won National Award for this film as well later. This way, Nithya Menen missed the Award once but not this time.

Nithya Menen was awarded this for her performance as Shobana in Thiruchitrambalam. Her performance in the film received rave reviews as well after the film’s release. She even won a Filmfare Award for this film already. Now she will be lifting the National Award for this role soon.

Actress, Mansi Parekh will be also getting the award along with Nithya Menen for her performance in Kutch Express. Apart from these, Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor Award for his performance in Kantara. This was shocking as no one expected this to happen. Rishab Shetty will be the second South Indian Actor after Allu Arjun to receive Best Actor Award in the recent times.

Great holiday advantage missed by Pushpa 2: Sukumar to be blamed

0

Yesterday marked the Independence Day of India. Four films from various languages have been released yesterday to cash in on the holiday season. Audience thronged the theatres to watch all these four films suprisingly. One among them was Stree 2 which took an earth shattering opening worldwide. Now, this great holiday advantage has been missed by Pushpa 2 and its Director Sukumar is to be blamed.

Pushpa 2 starring Allu Arjun is being directed by Sukumar. The film was originally planned as an Independence Day release. But it was postponed now to December 6th leaving this hoilday advantage. The team and Sukumar focussed heavily on the output and chose to postpone the film to finish the shoot properly. This has now affected the film badly. Pushpa 2 if released yesterday would have taken humongous opening at the box office. Stree 2 which is a sequel to Stree grossed more than 64 crores worldwide on the opening day itself to everyone’s surprise.

No one expected Stree 2 to perform this greatly. Bollywood is reeling under discomfort with many duds in the recent times and people flocked to the theatres like anything for Stree 2. Definitely, this could have helped Pushpa 2 even more if it had released on time. This proved to be a costly mistake for the team. Nevertheless they still can come back strong with the present release date of December 6th.

Thangalaan movie review: Vikram shines but the film misses out

0

Movie Name: Thangalaan
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast: Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy
Director: Pa. Ranjith
Produced By:  K.E. Gnanavelraja
Release Date: August 15th, 2024

Pa. Ranjith’s films have always managed to create great buzz before their release. Owing to a great trailer and Vikram’s mind-blowing makeover, Thangalaan has also managed to create huge anticipation in Tamil markets as well as Telugu states. This is undoubtedly Pa Ranjith’s most ambitious project and has been shot on a grand scale. Let’s see if the film has enough to make an impact on the audience.

Story:

Set in 1850, Thangalaan (Vikram) is a local tribal chief who leads his life with his wife Gangamma (Parvathy Thiruvothu) and 5 kids. He joins forces with the Britishers in search of a mythical gold. The search for treasure is filled with surprises, deceit, and agony. What happens next and how this journey turns Thangalaan’s world upside down is what the movie follows.

Performances:

To describe in one word- Vikram is “outstanding” as Thangalaan. Much like his previous movies, he has given his complete physical and emotional devotion to his role which will surely fetch him awards. Like all Pa Ranjith’s women characters, Parvathy Thiruvothu as Gangamma is well-written and the talented actress provides great support to Vikram. Malavika Mohanan is a true surprise and manages to impress one and all with her intense performance.

Analysis:

Thangalaan truly manages to transform us to the 1850s. The production design and the cinematography are top-notch. While the cast and technical crew have given their everything to the film, Thangalaan still has some flaws owing to its weak screenplay and failure to mix myth with reality. The film suffers from some pacing issues throughout and might test your patience. The Telugu dubbing also lacks quality and the audience might have to pay real attention to understand the proceedings well.

Positives:

  • Vikram
  • Production design
  • Basic premise
  • Cinematography

Negatives:

  • VFX and sound design
  • Tedious screenplay
  • Writing falls short at many places

Verdict:

Thangalaan is an exciting concept on paper and with Pa Ranjith and Vikram collaborating for the first time, the excitement is huge. Unfortunately, apart from the lead actors’ performances and some technical brilliance in production design, the film lacks in quality and engaging moments. Thangalaan is certainly not the best work of the director and would have been a great watch if the world-building and storytelling was better.

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyan Selvan Takes Home 4 National Awards!

0

Made as a two-part saga, Ponniyan Selvan is a historical epic series directed by the legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam. The first of them, titled PS-1 (2022), was a blockbuster in Tamil but made no noise in other languages. The sequel PS-2 (2023), despite receiving positive reviews, underperformed in all belts.

Considering these aspects, this film series can be labeled ‘underrated’. But it looks like these book adaptations are finally receiving some due recognition. As the title reads, Ponniyan Selvan was awarded a staggering four awards at the 70th National Film Awards, which are as follows:

  • Best Tamil Film
  • Best Sound Design (Anand Krishnamoorthy)
  • Best Cinematography (Ravi Varman)
  • Best Background Score (A. R. Rahman)

This is a magnificent achievement, and the cast and crew deserve praise for their outstanding effort made to pull off such a magnum opus.

Kannada Cinema Sweeps A Record Four National Awards!

Also known as Sandalwood, Kannada cinema refers to feature films made in the South Indian language of Kannada. It is based in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka. Considered the smallest in terms of market potential among the big five film industries (with others being Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam).

All credit to Hombale Films, the production company behind the legendary KGF series and Kantara. Kannada cinema is now receiving global recognition for their outstanding stories, music, and cast performances. Appreciating the same, the central government awarded a record four awards at the 70th National Film Awards.

Firstly, Rishab Shetty was called the ‘Best Actor’ for his performance in Kantara (2022); the film also bagged the ‘Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’. Besides this, KGF: Chapter 2 received the award for ‘Best Kannada Film’; for the same, action choreographers Anbariv got the well-deserved ‘Best Action Direction’ award. What a day for Kannada cinema!
