Prithviraj Sukumaran missed the chance to direct Rajinikanth

Mollywood Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also works as a Director. The Actor directed Lucifer starring Mohanlal, which became the biggest blockbuster in Malayalam. Now, he is returning to helm the Director job for L2: Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer. The teaser of L2: Empuraan has been released today, and the film has richness, grandeur, and all the elements needed for a Pan-Indian success.

In the Teaser event conducted, Prithviraj revealed interesting news of an unsuccessful collaboration between him and Kollywood Actor Rajinikanth. He said that Lyca Productions first approached him to direct the film with the Veteran Actor, but it failed to materialize with no headway in the script work because of his other commitments as an Actor.

He also stated that Lyca Productions still kept following him, which resulted in their co-production for his L2: Empuraan. The film is also produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, which worked as the Production house of the prequel Lucifer. There are high expectations on L2: Empuraan, and the stage is set for Mohanlal to score a 300 crore grosser if all goes well.

Dhruva Natchathiram’s release became a topic in Kollywood circles once again. Director Gautam Menon’s long-pending film, ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ faced multiple delays.  The film was announced in 2013 and has still not seen the light of day for various reasons. The film’s teaser was released almost seven years ago, and Gautam tried to release it in 2023. However, the film was postponed once again, much to the disappointment of the fans of Chiyaan Vikram.

After a long wait, ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ was set to be released in November 2023, Gautham Menon promised that the financial troubles were ironed out and that the film would hit theatres for sure this time. However, the issues were far from over and he had to postpone it again. However, the latest news is that Dhruva Natchathiram is looking at a Summer 2025 release.

In a recent interview, director Gautam Vasudev Menon mentioned that the situation is getting better for his film’s release, and he cited the example of Vishal – Sundar C’s Madha Gaja Raja, which became a blockbuster at the box office after a delay of 12 years. So, GVM said that this brought back the confidence in the people who were not sure of his film with Chiyaan Vikram getting a good response. The fans of Vikram are happy to know that Dhruva Natchathiram is looking at a Summer 2025 release.

Balakrishna’s appeal: Bharat Ratna for NTR

Tollywood Actor Balakrishna has been conferred the Prestigious Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India yesterday. The Actor also thanked the Government for recognising his services and expressed his gratitude to the Audience for being supportive all these years. He also made a fresh appeal to the Government to consider honoring his father and Tollywood’s late Matinee Idol, NTR, with Bharat Ratna.

The Actor said that Fans and Audience wanted the Award to be conferred to NTR for years. And also highlighted that all of the Telugu People would like to see that happen as an honor for the late Actor. He was also felicitated by the Union Minister, Kishan Reddy, at his home where the Actor spoke these words.

The Bharat Ratna demand for NTR is not new and has been the topic of controversy for the Government ignoring the Actor’s services in the field of Cinema and Politics. Interestingly, late Prime Minister and Telugu Politician P.V. Narasimha Rao was presented with the Award last year. As his son has been conferred now, people feel that his demand may also be fulfilled in the future soon, if not for now. So, let’s wait and see what happens.

Kollywood Actor Ajith is currently under cloud nine with the conferment of the Prestigious Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India. The Actor is also one of the biggest stars of Kollywood, but his remuneration has been less compared to other Kollywood stars, Rajinikanth and Vijay. He received only 150 crores till now for his latest film, Good Bad Ugly as the highest.

But, as per the buzz, it is learnt that Ajith has now been offered a whopping 200 crores remuneration for his upcoming film planned by the Red Giant Movies. This is definitely a big offer for the Actor. Kollywood usually has a high Non-theatrical business, but these higher remunerations are surely a burden for the Producers affecting films’ quality and output.

Ajith also needs to deliver the right amount of blockbusters to get himself such higher money. Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Vijay have all scored more than 400 crores with their previous films. Rajinikanth and Vijay have indeed touched the 400, 500 and 600 crore clubs as well. Ajith is yet to deliver a 400 crore film and makers seem not to be taking these into consideration.

Producers may feel that one right film from Ajith would strike gold delivering the above said grossers. Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi is slated for release on 6th February and Good Bad Ugly is also slated for 10th April. These two films would surely decide that.

Sankranthi Releases: HANU-MAN still tops the list

For the Telugu version, Ala Vaikunthapurramulo still holds the record, but if we consider all languages, Hanuman holds the record even today. Ram Charan and Shankar’s political action-drama Game Changer was released for this Sankranthi, and everyone expected it would break both Ala Vaikunthapurramulo in Telugu and Hanuman worldwide, but the film failed to impress and ended as a big disaster at the box office.

What is more shocking is, that Game Changer was able to collect only less than 200 Cr gross worldwide. Therefore, Hanuman reigns as Tollywood’s biggest Sankranthi blockbuster even now, and the record for the Telugu version will be with Ala Vaikunthapurramulo, with Anil Ravipudi – Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam likely to come very close in its full run.

Thandel: Love strikes gold, patriotism awaits

Thandel, the latest film of Naga Chaitanya directed by Chandoo Mondeti is based on real-life incidents involving fishermen caught in Pakistan. The film is a mix of love and patriotism. Till now, the film has been portrayed as a love story but it mainly deals with this serious concept that was hidden by the team. This happens to be the decider of Thandel’s fate.

This theme of Patriotism is also a risky one as Audience is still not prepared for this in the film. If this connects well, then the film will work at the box office undoubtedly. The love portion that has been shown till now received good response, as said, striking gold on YouTube with the views for its songs.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the Central government discriminated against Telangana State in giving the Padma awards. As part of the Republic Day celebrations, the CM said that the BJP did not bother even to consider the names that the TG government sent. Revanth Reddy is unhappy with the Padma Awards.

Revanth said “We recommended the names of Chukka Ramayya, Andesri, Gorati Venkanna, Gaddar, and Jayadheer Tirumala Rao but they (Centre) did not pay heed to it. Five awards have been given to Andhra Pradesh, but Telangana has not been given even four”, he said. Revanth Reddy is unhappy with the Padma Awards, and he said he would write a letter to the Central government against the discrimination shown in giving the Padma awards. 

Also, the Telangana CM said that efforts are being made to take up the appointment of VCs through the UGC. He said the Centre’s attempt to dominate the UGC was not right, and alleged that the Centre was trying to take away the autonomy of the universities. “How can the Centre take over the state’s right over universities? He called upon the Centre to stop the conspiracies at any cost and stated the Telangana government would fight the UGC rules along with the Chief Ministers of other states. “The new UGC rules are an attack on the Constitution. The Centre is attacking the states. Will the Constitution survive with such policies?”. He demanded that the Centre should immediately withdraw the UGC rules.

A total of 139 Padma awardees have been selected by the Centre for the year 2025. Of these, 7 have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards. As many as 23 women, 10 NRIs along with people from other countries have been selected for the Padma awards. From Telangana, Dr. Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy (Medicine) was selected for Padma Vibhushan and Mandakrishna Madiga (public affairs) received the Padma Shri award. From AP, Telugu hero Nandamuri Balakrishna (Arts) – Padma Bhushan, KL Krishna (Literature) – Padma Shri, Madugula Nagaphani Sharma (Arts) Padma Shri, Vaddiraju Raghavendracharya (Literature) – Padma Shri, Miryala Apparao (Arts) – Padma Shri were the recipients.
