Recent films across Indian Film Industry are set for OTT streaming this weekend. Some of these became blockbusters, and others were disappointments at the box office. They are listed out below:

Jack – Netflix

Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi – ETV Win
Kalamega Karigindhi – Sun NXT
Aparadi – Aha Video
Nonnas (American Comedy Drama) – Netflix

Of all these, Good Bad Ugly became a big blockbuster, grossing more than 250 crores worldwide, also becoming Ajith’s highest grosser. Jack, Robinhood ended up becoming miserable disaster at the box office. Odela 2 and Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi also repeated the same result, disappointing the involved parties.

Mohanlal reclaims box office throne in Kerala

0

Mollywood Actor Mohanlal scored a mega blockbuster recently with L2: Empuraan. The film also became an Industry hit there grossing more than 250 crores worldwide. Within a short gap of time, his other release, Thudarum, too rocked the box office. The film is still running strong, grossing more than 190 crores worldwide in 15 days. It will also join the 200 crores by tomorrow.

L2: Empuraan, though becoming an Industry Hit worldwide, didn’t establish a record in Kerala. In Kerala, Mohanlal’s previous film, Puli Murugan, held the record of Kerala’s biggest grosser for many years. Baahubali 2 couldn’t break this record, showcasing the stardom of Mohanlal. However, 2018 starring Tovino Thomas crossed Puli Murugan, emerging as highest grosser in Kerala with 90 crores.

L2: Empuraan settled only around with 86 crores gross and failed to beat but Thudarum, as said, looks to beat 2018’s record today and is all set to become Kerala’s highest grosser. Thudarum will also touch the 100 crore mark in Kerala alone creating a record.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan Eye Big Bollywood Box Office

Tamil cinema is gearing up for a major Hindi box office push with two massive releases.. Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life, hitting screens on June 5, and Rajinikanth’s Coolie, scheduled for August 14. Both films have generated immense buzz, thanks to their star power and blockbuster combinations, and are already doing impressive business in terms of pre-release deals.

Kollywood has long aimed to crack the Hindi market but has often fallen short, mainly due to the industry’s decision to opt for a 4-week theatrical-to-OTT window. However, Hindi multiplex chains require an 8-week gap before a film can be released on digital platforms. This mismatch has limited Tamil films’ box office potential in the North.

Now, both Thug Life and Coolie are reportedly in talks with OTT platforms to delay the Hindi version’s streaming to meet the 8-week requirement, while keeping the South language releases at 4 weeks as planned. If successful, this move could ensure a wide Hindi release and bigger returns.

However, Coolie will face stiff competition as it shares its release date with War 2, one of Bollywood’s most anticipated action sequels. Despite that, the star power of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan could turn the tide.

Kingdom Set to Take Mass Jathara Slot

Sithara Entertainments is currently facing scheduling issues, as both of its upcoming biggies Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Kingdom’ and Mass Mahraj Raviteja’s ‘Mass Jathara’ are facing multiple postponements due to various issues.

Initially, ‘Kingdom’ was all set for a grand release in late March, but later the makers pushed it to May 30. However, with post-production work still underway, sources indicate that the film is likely to be scheduled for a July release. The delay has created a ripple effect for ‘Mass Jathara’, which was originally intended for a Sankranti release before being shifted to July.

With ‘Kingdom’ set to take up the July slot, ‘Mass Jathara’ is expected to be moved back to August or maybe September. This rescheduling is intended to avoid an internal collision between two large projects from the same production studio.

With Kingdom and Hari Hara Veera Mallu both moving away from May 30, all eyes are now on that date. Bhairava, starring Bellamkonda Srinivas, Manchu Manoj, and Nara Rohit, has officially announced May 30th as its release date. With all eyes on these projects, fans are eagerly waiting for confirmed dates. Sithara Entertainments is expected to make formal announcements soon, ensuring strategic spacing for maximum impact at the box office.

Excellent Openings for Single

Sree Vishnu’s latest film, Single, with well-planned promotions has managed to create a decent buzz prior to its release, leading to a promising start at the box office. The film opened to a decent response with the noon shows registering good occupancy levels. Thanks to the unanimous positive reviews from critics and strong word-of-mouth from audiences, the momentum picked up rapidly throughout the day.

Each successive show witnessed a clear growth, with second shows witnessing extraordinary occupancies—more than double that of the noon shows. This growing trend clearly reflects the strong reception and the audience’s interest in the film.

In India, the film has collected a gross of 3 crore, and in overseas markets, it has collected more than 1 crore. With this, the film opened with a gross of over 4 crore, which is a fantastic start

The momentum is expected to continue, with today’s bookings showing even stronger promise than the opening day. With such a positive trend in both domestic and overseas markets, the film is poised for a successful run at the box office.

Mohanlal’s Back-to-Back 10M USD Milestone: A Record-Breaking Feat at 65

0

At the age of 65, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is creating massive records at the box office. With his recent huge hyped sequel, L2: Empuraan, the actor scored many records, and he continues the same with his latest film, Thudarum. Mohanlal achieves a record-breaking feat at 65, with back-to-back 10M USD milestones.

Mohanlal Scores Massive Records with Empuraan and Thudarum

With Empuraan, Mohanlal delivers the first 10M and 15M for Mollywood. The film had a lot of factors, a sequel craze, and a massive scale and budget. So, setting records with these kinds of films is fine, but the same star releasing a normal-budget film within just a one-month gap and setting records is unbelievable.

Mohan Lal did the unthinkable, as Thudarum joined the 10M club and became the 2nd Malayalam film to do so. Mohanlal achieves a record-breaking feat at 65, with back-to-back 10M USD milestones.

In India, Thudarum has crossed the 100 Cr gross mark, which takes the total worldwide gross close to the 190 Cr mark. The film is all set to join the 200 Cr club and become Kerala’s biggest grosser by this weekend. This will be the 3rd 200 Cr grosser for Mollywood after Manjummel Boys and Empuraan.

Subham Movie Review: An Interesting Ride With Few Flaws

0

Movie Name: Subham
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast:
Harshith Malgireddy, Shriya Kontham, Charan Peri, Shalini Kondepudi, Gavireddy Srinivas, and Shravani
Director: Praveen Kandregula
Produced By:
Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Release Date: 9th May 2025

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the star actress, produced her first film called Subham, which Praveen Kandregula directs. The film was released in theaters on May 9, 2025, i.e., today, and it also had a few paid premieres, which received a decent response. Let’s check whether the film lives up to the hype in our Subham Review.

Story:

Subham centers on three friends in Bheemili. Srinivas’s friends teach him about being an alpha male before his wedding. Srinivas’s first night goes off course with the arrival of the TV show Janma Janmala Bandham. The core plot revolves around Srinivas and his friends overcoming obstacles in their lives that are connected to the TV serial.

Performances:

Harshith Reddy, Gavireddy Srinivas, and Charan Peri fit their roles well, with Harshit making a stronger impression as the lead. The three actors perfectly embody their character types. Shriya Kontham stands out among the heroines, with Shravani Lakshmi and Shalini Kondepudi next in line. Madhumani, the experienced actress playing the mother, along with Vamshidhar Gaud, makes a notable impact. Samantha’s role is limited and ineffective. Her character feels distracting and ends suddenly.

Analysis:

Praveen Kandregula, known for Cinema Bandi, directs Subham. This story offers a relatable message through humor based on a unique idea revolving around a TV serial. Gangavva’s opening scene sets the tone for the movie. Following this, we are introduced to the key cast members, their connections, and the film’s main theme.

The situational humor is decent, and things become intriguing before the intermission, creating anticipation for the second half. The story keeps its pace right after the break in Subham. Soon, the repetitiveness stands out in the latter half. Using characters from Cinema Bandi gives this film a convenient vibe. The middle segments in the latter part stretch out time, but the climax message delivers the right impact with the TV serial and the actual characters’ realization regarding the marriage relationship and Alpha-Male traits.

Positives:

  • Main Theme
  • Performances
  • Situational Fun

Negatives:

  • Stretched Scenes in the Second Half
  • Few Convenient Ideas
  • Not So Strong Emotions

Subham Movie Review and Verdict:

Subham is an interesting comedy-drama. The core concept, performances, and humor create a genuine vibe, but the thin storyline and a few stretched/underwhelming parts limit its impact.

From Theatres to TV: Game Changer continues its flop streak

0

Game Changer starring Ram Charan was released this Sankranthi. The film ended up as a nightmare for all the parties involved, becoming a disaster at the box office. There were high expectations on the film because of the combo of Ram Charan and Director Shankar. But it faltered miserably.

Game Changer had its TV premiere recently on Zee Telugu and it delivered a TRP of 5.02 in Urban and 3.82 in Urban and Rural. This is very poor compared to other films. Game Changer’s OTT performance was also no different from this. The film didn’t generate any overwhelming viewership also on the OTT. There was also heavy trolling about few scenes of the film on the social media platforms after the OTT streaming.

Game Changer was the biggest budgeted film for the Producer, Dil Raju. The film saw many hurdles in the shoot stage itself, with Shankar opting to shoot his other directorial, Indian 2, simultaneously. However, Indian 2 too became a shocking disaster for Shankar, and his hopes were on Game Changer, which repeated the same result at the box office.

Single Movie Review: A Time-Pass Flick

0

Movie Name: Single
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast:
Sree Vishnu, Ketika Sharma, Ivana, Vennela Kishore and others
Director: Caarthick Raju
Produced By:
Geetha Arts, Kalya Films
Release Date: 9th May 2025

Single is the latest romantic comedy starring Sree Vishnu in the lead role. The film, directed by Caarthick Raju and backed by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts, received a decent response for its fun moments along with a few controversies. Let us find out what output does the team deliver in our Single movie review.

Story:

Vijay (Sree Vishnu) strives to escape his single life. It tells his love story with Purva and Harini along with what experiences does he has with both women.

Performances:

Sree Vishnu impresses with his laid-back humor and unique delivery. As the female lead, Ketika Sharma delivers an ordinary performance because of her forgettable character. Ivana makes her presence felt with nice attire and lively expressions. Vennela Kishore effectively plays a full-length sidekick role and brings the required fun in. VTV Ganesh has a few funny scenes, and that’s all. Senior actor Rajendra Prasad’s talent goes underutilized in a small part, and Comedian Sathya gives a blink and miss appearance. Narne Nithiin features in one scene but goes unnoticed.

Analysis:

Caarthick Raju directs Single, focusing on a straightforward, entertaining concept. The director creates a fun atmosphere and offers good comedic moments in the first half. The hero’s experiences with two heroines in similar circumstances seem captivating. While the scenes feel partially familiar, the director effectively showcases the lead’s awkward moments and small conflicts, keeping the first half interesting. The second half begins with fun but shifts to emotion, failing to resonate and causing the film to falter. The flashback part with Rajendra Prasad feels old and contrived. The climax that should have added fun looks nonsensical. However, the performances and chemistry of Sree Vishnu – Vennela Kishore make the proceedings engaging.

Positives:

  • Sree Vishnu and Vennela Kishore Performance
  • Interval Episode
  • Few Creative Ideas (Like Movies and Memes References)

Negatives:

  • Weak Second Half
  • Forced Emotions in the Flashback
  • Climax

Single Movie Review and Verdict:

Single is a time – pass entertainer. Sree Vishnu delivers a convincing performance alongside Vennela Kishore, creating fun moments and make the film appealing; though the second half lacks humor, and the ending falls flat.

What Did Chiranjeevi Ask Nag Ashwin?

The evergreen classic ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’, featuring Megastar Chiranjeevi and Sridevi, celebrates 35 years of release. To commemorate this milestone, the picture was re-released on May 9. As part of the marketing, Chiranjeevi, director K. Raghavendra Rao, and producer Ashwini Dutt discussed their unforgettable filmmaking experiences.

In a special video clip, Ram Charan expressed his enthusiasm for the film, calling it the epitome of a socio-fantasy for his generation. He recounted how the song “Jai Chiranjeeva” had inspired his love to Lord Hanuman. He described the film as the work of a “dream team,” praising legends such as Chiranjeevi, Sridevi, Ilaiyaraaja, Raghavendra Rao, Ashwini Dutt, Yandamoori, the Paruchuri Brothers, and cinematographer Vincent.

Ram Charan urged director Nag Ashwin to take up the sequel, asking him to address the unanswered questions from the original — like the fate of the magical ring and the talking fish. Interestingly, Chiranjeevi echoed similar thoughts, suggesting Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor as leads, with Ashwini Dutt’s children producing it under the guidance of Raghavendra Rao. Whether Nag Ashwin considers this project remains to be seen.
