Producers Blame Audiences, Not Content

0

In a surprising move, some Kollywood producers have decided to restrict YouTube reviewers and media from entering theaters, sparking a significant debate in the film industry.

Telugu cinema might soon follow this trend, as hinted by prominent producer Dil Raju. However, this approach reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of audience behavior and the role of reviews.

Good reviews can boost a film’s success if the content is strong, but bad reviews are rarely the sole reason for a movie’s failure. Recent examples like ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Kanguva’ suffered primarily due to weak content and poor word-of-mouth (WOM) feedback from audiences, not because of targeted negative campaigns as some producers claim.

When a film fails to resonate with viewers, it is often because of storytelling or execution issues, not external factors like online reviews. Ironically, many films have thrived at the box office despite mixed or poor reviews.

Audiences ultimately seek engaging and entertaining content, and no amount of negative propaganda can stop a good film from succeeding. If ‘Indian 2’ or ‘Kanguva’ had met audience expectations, they would have been widely celebrated, regardless of any criticism.

Producers should shift their focus from blaming audiences and reviewers to improving the quality of their films. Constructive feedback, whether from social media or traditional media, can serve as a valuable tool for growth. Instead of seeing reviews as obstacles, filmmakers should embrace them as opportunities to gauge public opinion and refine their craft. Ultimately, the content is what determines a movie’s fate.

Vishal: I am a Hero, Not a Villain

0

After the blockbuster success of Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan will be joining hands with Sudha Kongara. For this project, there have been several rumours that regarding the villain role and Jayam Ravi and Vishal were reported to be considered

Speaking on these rumours on being cast as villain in Sivakarthikeyan’s #SK25, Vishal countered and said,

“Villain? Certainly not. I am focused on my lineup and those are big. Also, I am aware where this talk mill originated from. I guess, it is their wish to see me as a villain after I have put in 20 years of hard work. I am not ready for it right now. It is better if they chill.”

This definitely is a good decision from Vishal. Vishal has a decent market at Box office. At this time it’s unnecessary to even think about villain and other roles which will directly kill hero’s market. Now, Jayam Ravi is said to be in final talks for villain role. It now needs to be seen what will be his final decision.

Trailer Trouble for Pushpa 2’s Bookings

0

The US advance bookings of Pushpa 2 opened a few days back. Initially, the film bookings got off to a sensational start and the opening figures were expected to be massive. In the recent times, Telugu pan-India films are opening pretty well and the US Premiers will have major contributions from Telugu audiences. As per the ongoing trend, all other languages will start performing from Day1 onwards

Keeping up with this trend, Kalki 2898 AD set a record premiere numbers with $3.9M by breaking mighty RRR record. NTR’s Devara also did a business in the excess of $3 Million.

With a strong start for Pushpa 2 advances, everyone expected it will be a $5 Million premiers and sets a new benchmark. The highly anticipated trailer released on last weekend definitely did not meet the expectations of Telugu audience. While it does seems like an grand film, many felt it was just a regular commercial entertainer on high scale.

The bad trailer cut has started impacting the advances in America. The film is not taking the jump after the trailer release which usually happens. The total North America pre sales are at $1.2M as of now. These numbers need to see a massive jump in the coming days to even to break Kalki 2898 AD premiers numbers.

Ram Charan’s Kadapa Dargah Visit Sparks Heated Debate

0

Actor Ram Charan’s recent visit to the Kadapa dargah in Andhra Pradesh during the 80th National Mushaira Ghazal event has sparked a heated debate. The actor attended the event as the chief guest, reportedly fulfilling a commitment made by music maestro AR Rahman to the dargah authorities.

A section of Hindu devotees expressed disappointment, particularly because Ram Charan was observing the Ayyappa Deeksha at the time. Critics argued that visiting a dargah during this period goes against certain religious customs.

Social media was abuzz with criticism, with one user commenting, “He is in Ayyappa mala. Rules must be followed. This is hurtful to Swami Ayyappa devotees.” Many questioned whether individuals of other faiths would be held to similar expectations of interfaith gestures during their religious observances.

The controversy also drew comparisons to Pawan Kalyan, who is actively fighting for the preservation of Sanatana Dharma. Some netizens questioned how Ram Charan’s actions align with these principles, asking, “Can Ram Charan bring Rahman to Sabarimala or Tirumala?”

However, Ram Charan also received considerable support from others who defended his decision as a gesture of interfaith respect and harmony. One social media user stated, “Love our religion, respect others. One nation, one spirit.”

Adding to the discourse, Ram Charan’s wife, Upasana, addressed the backlash through her social media, standing firmly by her husband’s actions and reiterating the importance of fostering unity in a diverse country like India.

As debates continue, the divide underscores the challenges public figures face in navigating faith and responsibility amidst polarized public sentiment.

Kollywood banning reviews: Are negative reviews not allowed from Audience?

0

Today, Tamil Film Producers Association has taken a decision of banning the reporting of reviews given by Audience outside the theatres on the opening day for all films. The Association also termed this negative review being the main reason for the debacle of recent releases, Indian 2, Vettaiyan and Kanguva. So, this makes one wonder why negative reviews are not allowed from Audience to come out.

If negative reviews had affected these films, what about other few films which won over these negative reviews and became decent to blockbuster hits. Actor Vijay will be a perfect example for this phenomenon. His recent films have attained negative reviews on the opening day but managed to perform well at the end of their final run. So, why negative reviews didn’t affect him or his films?

We need to understand by this logic that negative reviews are genuine opinions that arise out of people for many reasons. The Association’s decision of banning these negative reviews only makes it look foolish even more. It should also be known if they believe that people were spreading these intentionally. If so, the reason must also be stated by them. Not providing a valid reason and banning people’s opinion is not at all reasonable. This goes against the primary norm of respecting and caring for the audience’s choice.

Vettaiyan, Indian 2 and Kanguva had great hype ahead of the release which was also spread by their makers to the core. And if these films didn’t live up to the expectations and content as promoted aggressively by the makers, responsibility must be taken by them and they should try coming up with exciting content in the future. Instead, banning reviews and demanding only a positive talk and outcome looks childish from the Association acts.

Allu Arjun For North, FaFa for South Audiences

0

Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, became extremely popular in North India, surpassing its penetration in Telugu-speaking regions. Following the unexpected success of Pushpa: The Rise, filmmaker Sukumar reportedly altered the storyline for its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, in order to appeal to Hindi audiences even more. The film is intended to provide a larger-than-life experience based on individual tastes.

Allu Arjun’s performance in the sequel is portrayed as a spectacle, with Sukumar including multiple mass moments and iconic mannerisms that resonate powerfully with North Indian audiences. While larger-than-life heroism and stylized action are familiar turf for South Indian filmgoers, these aspects are expected to have a huge impact on Hindi-speaking audiences, where this degree of intensity is still relatively new.

The team anticipated a tremendous response in the North, with Allu Arjun’s performance being a big highlight. For South Indian audiences, the attention is expected to shift to Fahadh Faasil, who portrays the antagonist. His character is expected to be richly layered and will give an astonishing arc that will captivate audiences. Fahadh’s performance, which set high standards in Pushpa: The Rise, is expected to reach new heights in the sequel.

His moments are expected to be a big hit with Southern audiences, confirming his reputation as a standout performer. With these two charms, Pushpa 2: The Rule is set to be a cinematic pleasure for both regional and pan-Indian audiences.

Kollywood Bans Media in Theatres

0

The Kollywood film industry is taking significant steps to address the growing issue of public reviews that impact big-budget films like Indian 2, Vettaiyan , and Kanguva. The Tamil Nadu Producer Council recently issued a directive urging theater owners to restrict media from conducting reviews immediately after film screenings.

This move comes in response to concerns about the undue influence of early public reviews, particularly on platforms like YouTube, which can shape audience perceptions and box office outcomes. The council also condemned the alarming trend of personal attacks on filmmakers and actors in the guise of criticism.

They emphasized the need for constructive reviews that focus on the film’s merits rather than targeting individuals. These steps aim to protect the creative efforts and investments of filmmakers while promoting a healthier reviewing culture.

However, this attempt to restrict reviews has sparked a debate within the industry and among audiences. Critics argue that banning reviews inside theaters may not solve the problem, as reviewers can simply move to other locations or rely on audience feedback to share their opinions.

In an era dominated by digital media, completely curbing reviews seems impractical. Despite the challenges, the stand against personal attacks has garnered support from many quarters. Constructive criticism is vital for the growth of cinema, but it must remain respectful and professional.

As Kollywood navigates these changes, it marks a critical step toward ensuring a balanced relationship between filmmakers, audiences, and media.
