0

Even in its second weekend, Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa brings good numbers at the box office. Starring Dhanush as the lead alongside Nagarjuna in a crucial role, Kuberaa’s Telugu version crosses 90 Cr gross worldwide.

As said above, the social drama with the financial scam backdrop had a good 2nd weekend at the box office despite a new release like Kannappa competing with it.

Kuberaa crosses 90 Cr mark in Telugu: On course to join the 100 Cr Club

The Telugu version has collected over 90 Cr gross till the 2nd weekend, and if we consider all versions, the gross number will be close to 120 Cr.

The Tamil version disappointed in the 2nd weekend too, as it did not put up any numbers. Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa’s Telugu version crosses 90 Cr gross worldwide, and it is the 2nd biggest grosser for Dhanush after Raayan.

If only the Tamil version performed better, the movie could have been the all-time biggest grosser for Dhanush.

The trade expects Kuberaa to show a good hold this week too. If the film holds in the same way in Telugu with another decent weekend, then it will easily join the 100 Cr club in Telugu.

Last year Dulquer Salmaan’s Lucky Baskhar and Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran were released on the same day on the occasion of Deepavali, and both films scored success. Now, Dulquer Salmaan and Sivakarthikeyan are ready for another face-off.

As said above, last October saw these two talented actors competing, and though both films impressed the audiences, Amaran was a sensational blockbuster, and Lucky Baskhar emerged as a decent success.

Dulquer Salmaan and Sivakarthikeyan set for another Face-Off after Lucky Baskhar and Amaran

So, box office-wise, Amaran emerged as the winner. The latest news is that Dulquer Salmaan and Sivakarthikeyan are ready for another face-off this year with Madharasi and Kaantha.

Siva Karthikeyan’s next film, directed by Murugadoss and titled Madharasi, has been announced for a 5th September release.

Dulquer’s Kaantha is also said to be planning to arrive on the same date. Both films will be released in Telugu too.

But both films may not find a big screen count, as at that time Raviteja’s Mass Jathara will come on 27th August, and Teja Sajja’s big-budget film Mirai is set to release on 5th September.

Kannappa Becomes Manchu Vishnu’s Biggest Grosser

0

The dream project of Manchu Vishnu, Kannappa, the devotional film, was released in theaters on 27th June, and it gathered huge numbers for the actor. Kannappa becomes Manchu Vishnu’s biggest grosser within its first weekend.

The 1st weekend worldwide gross of the film is likely to be around ₹30 Cr, with a share of around ₹15 Cr. It is the lifetime biggest grosser for Vishnu, but whether it is a good or bad weekend can only be judged based on the original budget.

Kannappa’s Collections and the publicized budget do not match

For the publicly stated budget by the makers, these collections are definitely not enough. The makers publicized that the film’s budget is 200 Cr.

So, if you take that into consideration, then the share is not even 10% of the budget, and if the number has been used just for publicity, these are decent numbers.

Manchu Vishnu scores his career biggest grosser with Kannappa: But is it enough?

Kannappa becomes Manchu Vishnu’s biggest grosser within its first weekend, but the trend has been downwards after a decent day 1 at the box office.

Coming to the distributors, there is no risk involved for them as the movie has been released by Vishnu.

So, only Manchu Vishnu can say whether the collections are enough for the movie’s budget recovery or not.

3-Hour Movies Facing Backlash

0

Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa and Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa are doing well in theaters, and after a long time, the exhibitors are having happy days as the audiences are turning up to watch films. However, Kuberaa and Kannappa face backlash for their 3-hour runtime.

When the runtime goes beyond 3 hours, it becomes very risky for films, and the success rate of such films is low, as audiences always want an engaging film throughout.

So, when the runtime increases, the challenges for filmmakers increase, because if audiences feel the movies are too lengthy, then the impact will decline.

There is another danger with lengthy runtime movies: that the budget will get increased. If the movie does not come out well overall, the length will heavily impact it. So, such kind of films lose both ways.

Kannappa and Kuberaa Face Backlash Because Of 3-Hour Runtime

Telugu Cinema’s latest releases, Kuberaa and Kannappa, both have lengthy runtimes, and they went the same way. Both the movies were censored with 195 minutes, but later were trimmed to 183 minutes.

Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa and Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa face backlash for their 3-hour runtime. The public felt that there was drag in between for Kammula’s film, and it could have been trimmed by 10-15 minutes.

Even for Kannappa, the same response came as many felt that the first half of the film and the initial 2nd half were very lengthy and dragged. The unanimous reaction to the film was that it could have had a better impact with a 140–150-minute runtime.

Maargan Movie Review: A Decent Crime Thriller With Some Flaws

0

Movie Name: Maargan
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast:
Vijay Antony, Ajay Dhishan, Samuthirakani, Brigida, Deepshikha, Mahanathi Shankar, Vinodh Sagar, and others
Director: Leo John Paul
Produced By:
Fatima Vijay Antony
Release Date: 27th June 2025

Vijay Antony’s latest flick, the crime thriller Maargan, hit theaters this Friday following his announcement of Bichagadu 3. Let’s check how much the movie keeps the audience engaged.

Story:

A criminal leaves behind deceased individuals with black skin in garbage containers. Dhruva, a suspended cop, realizes this is not just one murder but a serial killer at large. The film reveals Dhruva’s personal tragedy connected to the murders and his quest for the killer with Aravind, a gifted swimmer.

Performances:

Vijay Antony and Ajay Dhishan deliver their characters with great sincerity. Brigida fits nicely in support, while Deepshikha is adequate. Mahanthi Shankar leaves an impression, but Samuthirakhani and Vinod Sagar have limited parts.

Analysis:

Maargan starts with an intriguing concept, enhanced by a touch of superhuman elements. The film stays focused until the interval, briefly losing its way with Aravind’s unimportant love story.

There’s a brief moment in Aravind’s childhood episode, where old beliefs are mixed with a divine event, helping him become a man who can effortlessly thrive in water. Director Leo John Paul cleverly uses this aspect to uncover details about the killer. However, there are some moments where the film drags some investigation scenes.

Dhruva’s backstory feels disappointing because of the quick portrayal of tragedy and crime, which dampens the emotional impact. But the film’s second half goes on a good note and though the killer’s identity and backstory feel rushed near the climax, the narration holds the suspense until the end.

Positives:

  • Good Enough Screenplay (Though dull at places)
  • The Special Quality of Aravind’s Character
  • A Few Thrilling Moments

Negatives:

  • Weak Backstory of Dhruva
  • Unnecessary Scenes of Aravind’s Love Life
  • The Killer’s Revelation Could Have Been Better

Maargan Movie Review and Verdict:

Maargan impresses with its intriguing storyline and exciting parts. Sure, there are some dull scenes and rushed sections at the end that drag it down a bit, but it still stands as a decent crime thriller.

Controversial Rumor on Dhanush

0

Tamil director Vetrimaaran and actor Dhanush’s pair is a blockbuster one. The duo worked on four movies, and all are successful films. However, a controversial rumor about Dhanush is being spread regarding Vetrimaaran’s film.

Vetrimaaran was supposed to work with Suriya for VaadiVaasal, but despite the film having superb craze among fans, the film was shelved due to some differences between the actor and director.

Rumors Surround Dhanush – Vetrimaaran – Vada Chennai Universe

Immediately Vetri starts a film with Simbu, and also a promo shoot is done. The film is said to be present in Vada Chennai’s world, and fans were happy that a cinematic universe was being made for their favorite film.

Reportedly, the producers approached Dhanush’s production house for an NOC, as the actor was the major producer for Vada Chennai. But a controversial rumor about Dhanush is being spread that he demanded a big amount for NOC.

It is also being said that director Vetrimaaran is very upset over this issue. However, there is also another side to this rumor, and a few closed circles say that Dhanush did not make any demand for an NOC.

Few Tamil Cinema Fans Criticize Dhanush for the Rumors about NOC for Vada Chennai Universe

With these multiple reports going on in the industry and media circles, a few audiences and netizens have already started criticizing Dhanush. We need to wait and see to know whether the rumor is true or baseless.

As said above, Dhanush’s circle mentioned that the hero did not make any demand for NOC, and in fact he informed the team to give whatever Vetrimaaran asks without any delay.

Vetrimaaran – Dhanush’s relationship is more than an actor-director relationship

Vetrimaaran and Dhanush have already announced Vada Chennai’s sequel next year, and they have also worked on four movies together.

Everyone has known Dhanush for a long time, and he has always shared a very good relationship with Vetrimaaran, and mostly his demanding the money should be a baseless rumor.

The fans hope that this issue will be officially addressed soon.

Kannappa Day 2 Box Office- Below Par

0

Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa fails to deliver the expected numbers on its second day after a decent start on the first day. The trend is not that great, as Kannappa’s box office performance on Day 2 is below par.

On its day 1, the devotional film opens with 13 Cr gross worldwide, and for the reported budget of the makers, the movie has to witness a jump over day 1, but the movie drops from opening day.

Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa Sees a drop in collections on Day 2

It does not crash drastically, but it also does not maintain the momentum. Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa’s box office performance on Day 2 is below par.

The estimates for the second day’s collections are around 9 Cr gross, which takes the total gross to 22 Cr, which is definitely not enough for the film.

Tomorrow the trend needs to get better for the film more than its opening day for a decent weekend at the box office.
