All hopes now on Vakeel Saab

0

Pawan Kalyan is all set to make a comeback to our screens on 9th April and fans just can’t keep calm. With a spate of unsuccessful films coming out in the last few weeks, Tollywood is resting all hopes now on Vakeel Saab.

This year, the post-Corona lockdown has been a excellent start for the Telugu film industry. Films from Krack to Jathiratnalu TFI has delivered many successful films. Post-Jathiratnalu, Tollywood has not yet seen massive success. If we take into account the last few releases of the industry like RangDe, Wild Dog, Sulthan, Sashi, Chaavu Kaburu Challaga, none of them have made it big in terms of returns.

This has led the industry to put all hopes now on Vakeel Saab. This dry run of Tollywood could also mean an advantage for Vakeel Saab which is gearing up for a big release. There is no reason why it shouldn’t register record openings considering that it has already done good pre-release business and has generated great buzz.

Tollywood biggies to push the release dates?

0

Just when we thought things are getting back to normal, a number of Tollywood biggies films have started reporting delays. Corona’s second surge apparently is causing this delay and a number of films have faced issues on various fronts. While some Tollywood biggies are seeing delays in VFX, others are facing delays due to the new travel restrictions.

Recently, a big-ticket movie experienced a long delay in the shooting of their Europe schedule due to the recent surge of Covid cases. The location of the shoot underwent another lockdown and the entire unit had to face massive hardships. The team somehow secured permissions to shoot amidst restrictions and new regulations. Not just this, the new restrictions have also resulted in the stretching of the film’s budget and are causing quite a dent in the producer’s pocket. There is one other star film that had everything in line to start a schedule in Goa but with rising cases, had to cancel the schedule at last minute. Now, the team is looking to start their schedule in Hyderabad but it would take some time to plan and execute it.

Adding to this, a number of actors, directors, and producers have reported positive of Corona leading to delay in shoot. If this delay persists, we might see several films postponing their release dates. We hope the issues are resolved at the earliest and the industry is back on its feet soon.

Sulthan Movie Review: Karthi shines in this predictable action drama

0

Movie: Sulthan
Rating: 2.5/5
Cast: Karthi, Rashmika Mandanna
Director: Bakkiyaraj Kannan
Produced By: Dream Warrior Pictures
Release Date: 02nd April 2021

Karthi and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Sulthan hit the screens today amidst positive buzz. Karthi who has a good following amidst Telugu audience expected to repeat the success of his earlier Khaidi and Khaakee with this commercial potboiler. Did he succeed? Is Sulthan worth the hype? Let’s find out in this Sulthan movie review.

Story: The story follows the journey of Sulthan Jr played by Karthi, who after the death of his father Sulthan played by Napolean becomes the de facto head of his gang. Napolean is approached by a group of villagers to save them from the clutches of Jayachandra, played by Ramachandra Raju of KGF fame. Can Karthi save the village from his wrath? Can he reform his own gang forms the crux of the story.

Performance: The movie is out and out Karthi’s movie who played the titular role to perfection. He is well supported by Lal who plays the role of his uncle and mentor and Yogi babu who provides timely laughs in the first half. Rashmika Mandanna is wasted in her character which could have been written better. Ramachandra Raju gives shades of his powerful KGF role but is wasted as a whole.

Analysis: The movie takes a bit too long to come to the point. The saggy screenplay and songs by Vivek Mervin continuously disturb the flow of the movie which could have been better if the runtime was cut short. Apart from Karthi and Lal, much of the star cast are wasted. The trope of a hero saving the village has been time again used in commercial cinema and there is nothing much to offer in terms of the central conflict of the movie.

Plus Points:

Karthi’s performance
Pre- Interval and Climax fights
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s BGM

Minus Points:

Predictable story
Long runtime
Takes too long to come to the point

Verdict: Sulthan possesses all the ingredients of an exciting commercial potboiler. The movie could have been more engaging had it focussed more on Sulthan’s gang’s reformation and him being clear about his intentions. Certain additional cliched elements could also have been avoided to make the movie more enjoyable. Overall, Sulthan could appeal to action movie lovers and definitely to Karthi fans.
