Venkatesh to do a hat-trick of remakes?

Venkatesh who is currently busy with Drushyam 2 and Narappa might just star in another remake. Buzz is that he might star in the remake of the 2019 Malayalam superhit Driving License. The Malayalam comedy-drama starred Prithviraj and Suraj in the lead roles.

The Malayalam comedy film follows the dynamics between a motor vehicle inspector and an actor. The inspector happens to be a huge fan of the actor who needs the license on an urgent basis. What follows next is how the lives of both men get affected. The Malayalam film ended up as one of the biggest blockbusters of Mollywood in 2019.

Meanwhile Venkatesh has just finished his portion for Drushyam 2 in record time. The film was scheduled for a release in June-July. However, producer Suresh Babu has also received great offers for a direct OTT release and nothing has been decided yet.

Another remake that Venkatesh is working on is Narappa. A remake of Dhanush starrer Asuran, the movie was scheduled to release on 14th May. However, with the ongoing second wave of Covid, the film’s release has been indefinitely postponed.

The discussions on Driving License are still going on and nothing has been finalised yet.

Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapuram Lo, that released last year turned out to be a major blockbuster. Not just the movie, the songs of the film were also hugely successful. Especially Ramulao Ramula and Butta Bomma from the movie attained worldwide recognition.

Butta Bomma song was a sensation all across social media and shattered many records on YouTube. Now the song has achieved another massive milestone more than a year after its release. It has crossed 600 Million views and has become the first Telugu movie video to achieve this feat. The song Butta Bomma is also the 2nd  most viewed video song in South India.

The song penned by Ramajogayya Sastry and sung by Armaan Malik has become a massive success and is shattering many more records. The Icon Star recently tested positive for Covid and has been in home quarantine.

Allu Arjun will next be seen in Pushpa. Pushpa is Sukumar and Allu Arjun’s 3rd movie after Arya and Arya 2. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Pushpa is an action thriller that revolves around red sandal smuggling.

The film also stars Fahadh Faasil and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles. It will release simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi later this year.

Tollywood remembers legendary Dasari Narayana Rao

On Dasari Narayana Rao’s 74th birth anniversary, Tollywood big wigs and his colleagues paid their respects to the legendary director. Dasari gave the Telugu Film Industry some of its most iconic movies. Apart from this he also launched the careers of a number of technicians, directors, and actors who later became hugely successful in the film industry.

Apart from being a visonary director, he was also a terrific actor. His many-fold talents also included directing, producing, screenwriting and songwriting. In a career spanning five decades, Dasari Narayana Rao directed over 150 films. He’s also a recipient of 3 National Film Awards and 9 Nandi Awards.

Swargam Narakam, Amma Rajinama, Osey Ramulamma, Sardar Paparaidu, Sivaranjani, Meghasandesam, Bobbili Puli, Gorintaku, Premabhishekam, Majnu are some of the many of his notable films.

Fans and industry colleagues paid rich tributes to the ‘Darsakaratna’. Mega Star Chiranjeevi paid his homage to the star director on social media.

Apart from Mega Star Chiranjeevi, director Bobby, Gopichand Mallineni and Maruthi also paid their respects to the legend. Dasari Narayana Rao passed away at the age of 70 in the year 2017 of prolonged illness.

Vakeel Saab that released last month received rave reviews from all sections. The hype around the movie ever since it was announced was unbelievable. With Power Star Pawan Kalyan making a comeback to the silver screen after 3 long years, fans’ excitement levels knew no bounds. The film opened to great collections and turned out to be the biggest opener in the Indian film industry since lockdown.

Vakeel Saab registered an excellent start in Nizam, but, after opening day the film failed to hold same momentum. After the initial euphoria, post Day 5 most centers failed to get shares because of the huge release. Adding to it, the Covid second wave and theatres issue with the government also played a massive role in the film not fairing well as per expectations.

The Nizam area has always been Pawan Kalyan’s strong zone. But Vakeel Saab failed to get the cash registers ringing like before. Vakeel Saab collected Rs 23.5 crores of closing share including GST. If we take out the GST of the equation the collection totals Rs 21 crores. Pawan Kalyan’s blockbuster Attarintiki Daaredi also collected around the same amount of Rs 23 crores way back in 2013. The collections of Attarinitiki Daaredi were an all-time record in Nizam back then. It was expected that Vakeel Saab will easily beat the record after 8 years and add on much more. However, it failed to do so.

Director to go back and become AD?

Usually, it’s a norm in industry to graduate from an AD to Director. A number of aspirants come to the industry and work as an assistant to a director to learn the crafts of filmmaking. Once they believe they have got the hands-on experience, they look to move up the league.

However, looks like there is going to be a reversal with the upcoming Super Star Mahesh Babu and Trivikram film. Buzz is that director Venky Kudumala will be assisting Trivikram on this film. Venu has already directed Chalo and Bheeshma and was looking to direct a star hero next. However, producer Radhakrishna who earlier backed Venky’s Bheeshma requested him to pitch in with support for Trivikram.

Recently, Trivikram lost his go-to man Satyam. Satyam was a senior co-director for Trivikram and helped him with creative inputs and visualizations. His sudden passing away has left a huge void. In this situation, Venky coming in can help the maverick director in a big way. With Venky’s next film taking time to get launched, it’s being reported that he felt it will be a great experience.

Coming to SSMB 28, Trivikram had earlier narrated the script to Superstar who has okayed it. Pooja Hegde will star opposite Mahesh Babu yet again after Maharshi in this film. The shoot of this film is likely to start from August or September and the team is aiming for 2022 Summer release. The title of this film will be revealed on 31st May on the eve of Super Star Krishna Birthday.

There is no doubt that Devi Sri Prasad is one of the biggest names in Telugu music. Over the years, he has delivered some of the biggest chartbuster albums for Tollywood. Most recently, DSP’s chartbuster ‘Seetimaar’ was used in Salman Khan’s upcoming film Radhe.

Now we hear that Rohit Shetty has brought Devi Sri Prasad on board for his upcoming comedy entertainer ‘Cirkus’. The film stars Ranvir Singh and Jacqueline Fernandes in lead roles. According to the buzz, DSP has already composed two songs for the film. The first one is a dance number and the other is a romantic love song.

However, it needs to be seen if these songs are fresh compositions or remix of Devi’s older chartbusters.
