As of now 3 films locked for 2021 Sankranthi Release
The film industry has been lashed by the COVID-19 outbreak. All the theatres remained closed for over the last 4 months. Though the proposal of re-opening the theatres was discussed in Unlock 3.0, the government is not ready to take the risk. So, could not dare to open the theatres at least till Unlock 4.0. Even the producers and some theatre owners are not interested to re-open the theatres as running with less occupancy would result in losses.
On the other hand, the shootings are also on pause even the government as issued permissions. As the major projects require a huge number of crew members, the virus would rapidly spread among them. So, the shootings might be resumed when the situations came back to normal.
Some other projects have already completed their shooting and waiting for the release. Small budget movies opting for OTT release and some medium and high budget flicks are left with a dilemma. Star producers like Dil Raju, Kona Venkat are firm on their decision saying no to digital release despite getting whopping offers.
Many movies scheduled for a summer release but remained unreleased as the box-office doors are closed. So, all these movies have to reschedule their release dates. Three medium budget movies are now looking forward to Sankranti 2021 release.
Diving into the details, newly married Nithiin’s upcoming movie is titled Rang De in which Nithiin is paired up with Keerthy Suresh for the first time. Tholiprema director Venky Atluri is helming this project under the Sithara Entertainments banner while Devi Sri Prasad is composing music. Last week, Rang De team released the teaser and announced that Rang De hopefully hits the screens on Sankranthi 2021.
The next movie eyed for Sankranthi release is Naga Chaitanya‘s Love Story in Shekhar Kammula’s directorial venture. Fidaa beauty Sai Pallavi will be seen as a female lead opposite to Chaitanya. This movie was planned for the summer season but now looking for Sankranthi 2021 release.

One more love story in this list is Akhil‘s Most Eligible Bachelor which is being directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar. This project is like a re-launch for both Akhil and Bhaskar as they had bitter results in the past. Pooja Hedge is playing a female lead and Gopi Sunder is working as a music director while the second production wing of Geetha Arts, GA2 Pictures is bankrolling this project.
Let’s see will these three films be able to make their Sankranthi release and what are the big projects join them for the Sankranthi race. Most of the audience expects high-voltage mass and action entertainers for Sankranthi but all the above movies are coming as love dramas and another interesting thing is Akkineni brothers Chai and Akhil will compete with each other at the box-office.
