Clarity on Indian 2 on April 28

0

The Madras High Court has directed Shankar and Lyca Productions to sort the differences among them in the Indian 2 conflict. Lyca Productions which is producing Indian 2 approached court earlier this month against Shankar over his non-compliance with the project.

The project which started shoot amidst much fanfare has faced continuous stoppages and now the shoot has completely stalled. This has left the project in jeopardy with no foreseeable future. Adding to this, lead actor Kamal Haasan’s political entry in the recently concluded TN elections have also added to the delay.

Lyca Productions requested the court to restrict Shankar from signing any further projects till he completes his commitment for Indian 2. The producers also accused Shankar of charging Rs 40 crore as remuneration out of which Rs 14 crore have been paid to him. The producers have also offered to deposit the remaining amount with Madras High Court. Another accusation that is causing legal troubles for Shankar is that he has already used up Rs 180 crore of the allotted Rs 236 crores budget.

The court will resume the proceedings on the case on April 28th and then only we might get some clarity over the issue.

On his part, Shankar said that he is not planning to abandon Indian 2 altogether and also opened up about reshooting the portions involving actor Vivekh, who passed away recently. Lyca Productions cited mounting budget as one of the reasons behind their petition.

Nani not interested in OTT release

0

Nani’s Tuck Jagadish was scheduled for a release today as per the original schedule. However, the Covid second wave, slashed occupancies in theatres and new ticket rates have all contributed to a delay in the movie release. Meanwhile, like a lot of movies these days, the makers of Tuck Jagadish were also offered a deal by OTT for an exclusive release. However, reportedly Nani has no interest in an OTT release and wants to go for a theatrical release.

Incidentally Nani’s last movie “V” was released directly on Amazon Prime last year. The performed quite poorly with critics rating the movie quite unfavourably. This might be a factor behind Nani’s hesitance in releasing the movie directly digitally.

This film is being directed by Shiva Nirvana who earlier directed successful films like Ninnu Kori and Majili. Ritu Varma has been paired opposite Nani for the first time. While S S Thaman is composing tunes for this film, Shine Screens is bankrolling this project.

Suresh Babu clarifies on Drushyam 2 release

0

Producer Suresh Babu has stated that he has not yet finalized a deal with any OTT Drushyam 2 release yet. He said that he will take a call after assessing the situation in a few days and depending on the Covid second wave, he will take the final call. He further added theatrical release is also pretty much a possibility.

Recently it was reported that Drushyam 2 received a great deal from an OTT platform for an exclusive release. The unit is now considering various options before releasing it directly digitally. This seems to be a good decision considering the Covid second wave and the restrictions on release and theatre capacity.

Incidentally, Mohanlal’s Drishyam 2 also release directly on Amazon Prime back in February. If Drushyam 2 releases directly on OTT, Venkatesh would become the first TFI biggie to have done so. This might set a good precedent for others considering the current situation.

Sonu Sood has yet again made a massive humanitarian gesture helping the needy. He came to the rescue of a girl in need for better treatment and airlifted her from Nagpur to Hyderabad for the same. The actor himself recovered from the virus recently and was tested negative and posted the news on his Instagram.

Though he has been in home quarantine for the past few days, he is actively helping out people in need through various initiatives. In this case, the 25-year-old girl, who tested positive for coronavirus, reportedly got critically ill as she had lost almost 85-90 percent of her lungs. Now, with the actor’s help, the patient got an air ambulance for better treatment.

Speaking to the media, Sonu said,” Doctors had said that the chances are 20 per cent and asked me whether I still wanted to go ahead with it. I said ‘Of course. She is a 25-year-old young girl and she will fight the battle hard and she will come out of it stronger.’ That’s why we took this chance and we decided to get an air ambulance and the best team of doctors in the country to treat her. The treatment is going well in Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, and we hope for the best. She will recover and come back soon.”

Worrying times ahead for theatre owners

0

Tough times for AP exhibitors and distributors are just not seeming to end anytime soon. The second Covid wave coupled with occupancy restrictions has added to the worries of theatre owners.

According to reports, in Srikakulam, only morning and matinee shows are playing that too with only 50% occupancy. Theatres in Vizag and many other areas have shut down and only certain theatres in the rest of AP are still functioning. Even Telangana theatres are facing a similar fate with many theatres in Telangana set to shut down after this weekend. According to a distributor, all theatres will be shut down very soon across the two states with few exceptions.

Another major reason for these closures is the lack of any new releases. Post Vakeel Saab, Tollywood has not seen any major releases. Barring a few small-budget films, none of the movies released this month. A number of big-ticket movies such as Love Story, Tuck Jagadish, and Thalaivi postponed their releases in April.

Vakeel Saab collections force Dil Raju to change plans

0

Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab released earlier this month to good reviews. The critics even declared this performance of Pawan Kalyan as one of the finest of his career. Power Star’s comeback to the big screen after 3 years was enough to generate massive hype for the movie. Such were the expectations on the film that it got great openings and occupancies. The movie was even declared the biggest opening in India film since lockdown. However, the recent Vakeel Saab collections have forced producer Dil Raju to change plans. Raju is planning to relook at the OTT agreement that he had made with Amazon Prime earlier.

The major reason for this is post the initial euphoria, the movie has been facing multiple challenges. The Covid second wave turned out to be a big challenge for the movie. The bigger roadblock though was the AP government’s orders to put a slab on the ticket prices.

A new GO issued on 8th April, directed theatres across AP regarding the prices of the tickets. As per the directives, theatres situated in Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Nagar Panchayat, and Gram Panchayat each have been given a slab for ticket prices as per the theatre class. This created a lot of troubles for the movies.

And now with theatres running on 50% occupancy in AP along with even shutting down in some regions, the makers are left with no choice but to re-look at their OTT agreement. Initially, it was decided that the movie will be released on Amazon Prime after 50 days of the release. However, with the film’s theatrical release coming to an end due to various factors, Vakeel Saab might be streaming on Amazon Prime sooner than expected.

Sukumar and Vijay Devarakonda’s film to be a super quick one

0

The much-awaited combination of Sukumar and Vijay Devarakonda is up and running. The film will go on floors pretty soon. It was earlier reported that the film as been shelved as both Sukumar and Devarakonda’s schedules were not matching.

Vijay Deverakonda is currently shooting for Puri Jagannadh’s Liger while Sukumar is busy with Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa. Both the director and actor will collaborate once they are free from their commitments. This movie is set to be a love story and the filming will be completed in just six months. The film is going to be a unique one in every aspect. Just like all other Sukumar films, the characterization and presentation are going to be different.

Recently the makers of the film, Falcon Creations released a statement asking the fans to not believe in any kind of rumours. The production house will be venturing into filmmaking with this movie as its debut. It confirmed that the movie is up and running and that it is not shelved. The statement further added that the Sukumar and Vijay Devarakonda movie will go on floors as decided and at appropriate time.

Poor ratings for TV premieres of Red and Bangaru Bullodu

0

On the occasion of Ugadi, two of the recent releases Ram’s Red and Allari Naresh’s Bangaru Bullodu premiered on TV. Surprisingly, despite it being a festive occasion, both the movies received poor ratings.

The digital rights of both the movies are with SunNXT while the Television rights were bagged by Gemini TV. While Red attracted a TRP of 5.0, Bangaru Bullodu got ratings of 2.4 in its premiere telecast.

Red is an official remake of the Tamil blockbuster Thadam that starred Arun Vijay in lead. It also stars Nivetha Pethuraj, Malvika Sharma, Amritha Aiyer, Sampath Raj in supporting roles. The film is directed by Kishore Tirumala who earlier directed Ram on Nenu Sailaja and Vunnadi Okkate Zindagi.

Bangaru Bullodu stars Pooja Jhaveri in lead role opposite Allari Naresh. The movie is produced by AK Entertainments and directed by Giri Palika. This Allari Naresh starrer comedy movie was declared a flop at the box- office.
