One of the two remakes releasing today, Ishq: Not a Love Story follows the story of a young couple caught in an unfortunate situation. The story of a road trip turned into a nightmare has with its share of thrills and scares sounds like an exciting premise. But, has the director SS Raju succeeded in re-capturing the magic of the original?

Story: Soon to be married young couple Siddhu (Teja) and Anu ( Priya Varrier) decide to go on a road trip to mark her birthday. The pleasant trip of the couple takes a murky turn when a duo targets the couple and harasses and tortures them physically and mentally. How does the couple react and how the incident affects the relationship of Sidhu and Anu forms the crux of the story

Performance: Comparisons are bound to happen when a movie is remade. While Teja Sajja looks the part and does a decent job at his role, it falters in comparison to Shane Nigam. Teja looks unconvincing in action sequences and falters at putting up a menacing act. Ditto with Priya Varrier who is one of the weakest points of the film. The character requires vulnerability and emotions which she is unable to conjure. Ravindra Vijay is definitely the highlight of the film and looks imposing and intense.

Analysis: The film fails to live up to the positive hype it created with its initial rushes. The casting is one of the weakest points of the film and while the lead pair of Teja and Priya look lovely on the screen, their performance falters at most places. The screenplay is another weak aspect of the film and doesn’t provide the tight and fast feel that a thriller should. The core focus of the film which should be moral policing and relationship dynamics of the young couple doesn’t work out well on the screen.

Verdict: Teja Sajja still reminds us of the child actor that we all saw in early years. While he has come of age and is adept at performing stunts and dance numbers, it would be better if he grooms self with some softer films. The remake doesn’t do justice to the deep message that it set out to give. While the concept is brilliant, Ishq: Not a love story fails in execution.

A young lawyer- Ramachandra (Satyadev) starts getting deep into an old case in which a bar employee was wrongly framed. What are the shocking revelations made during the course of the investigation? Will lawyer Ramachandra be able to free the innocent and punish the culprits in this 8-year-old case forms the crux of Thimmarusu.

Story: A cab driver’s murder followed by the arrest of an innocent bystander starts the chain of the story. Young lawyer Ramachandra an idealist and honest charactered person chances upon this case 8 years later. The police have wrongly framed the innocent bar employee for the murder in haste. And, it is now up to lawyer Ramachandra to ensure justice prevails and the criminals are punished.

Performance: Just like his previous movies, Satyadev excels in his role as an idealist lawyer. He looks earnest and sincere in his intentions and carries the role quite effortlessly. Interestingly, this is the first time he had to feature in action sequences and performs convincingly in the fights. Ajay as the antagonist has nothing new to offer and has played similar roles a number of times in his career. Bramhaji as Satyadev’s assistant provides decent comic relief and is a great addition to the Thimmarusu cast. Other cast members such as Priyanka Jawalkar, Jhansi and Harsha Chemudu have nothing special to play and are underused.

Analysis: The movie starts off slow and even the eventual runtime of over 2 hours appears to be long. However, once the film picks up the pace and the game of cat and mouse begins, you will get immersed in it. The movie delivers decent fight scenes and twists towards the end. For a proper murder mystery, a lot depends on jumps and the BGM following that and Sricharan Pakala has done a good job with the music. Director Sharan Koppisetty has stayed faithful to the original Kannada version and hasn’t deviated from the basic premise. However, slow screenplay and lack of good roles for support cast reveals the occasional weakness of the film.

Verdict: Overall Thimmarusu is a decent crime thriller and investigating part is neatly done. Like the original film ‘Birbal Triology’, the entire movie rests on the lead actor (Satyadev’s) shoulder. Satyadev has done a great job with not just performance but also has been impressive in action scenes. The film redeems itself in the second half and with Thimmarusu having a good buzz amongst the audience, the film might end up doing well at the box office.

2022 Sankranti is going to be an explosive one as 3 Tollywood biggies have now confirmed their release for the festive period. Historically, Sankranti has been a massive release season for Tollywood. Over the past many decades, the harvest festival has seen a number of mouth-watering clashes. Sankranti 2022 is going to be the biggest one in recent years as it’s going to be Mahesh vs Pawan vs Prabhas.

UV Creations, the makers of Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam just released a fresh poster confirming the movie’s release for Sankranti. This update has given great energy to movie lovers who have been through a dull phase due to no big releases.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata was the first one to announce its release for the festive season. Parasuram Petla is directing this action thriller and the shoot is presently going on at a great speed. Chiranjeevi’s Lucifer remake to be shot in record time

The Telugu remake of the 2019 Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer was launched earlier this year. However, post the puja ceremony, the buzz on the Lucifer remake has cooled down due to lockdown and Chiranjeevi being busy with Acharya.

However, in a recent media interaction, Producer NV Prasad stated that the movie will be shot in a record time. It will go on floors on August 13th and the makers have planned to wrap it up in 4 months. If this actually happens, this will be one of the quickest wrap-ups of Megastar in recent times.

Chiranjeevi’s last 3 films, Acharya, Sye Raa and Khaidi No.150 have all taken more than a year to complete. With the makers of Lucifer remake looking to complete it in 4 months, fans’ excitement has spiked up yet again. The project will be jointly produced by NV Prasad and Konidela Productions.

Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, was the directorial debut of Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters in Malayalam cinema. Lucifer, a political thriller, starred Mohanlal in a character called Stephen Nedumpally. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, the film also starred Manju Warrier, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran in crucial roles.

Shankar to start RC15 works very soon

Maverick director Shankar has decided to not waste any more time delaying his film with Ram Charan. He will be flying down to Hyderabad at the earliest to conduct a look test for Ram Charan. The rest of the finalised cast of RC15 will also be a part of this look test. The details regarding other cast members have been kept secret.

The movie was earlier scheduled to go on floors in July. However, due to Covid restrictions and Shankar’s personal legal issues, it got delayed. Producer Dil Raju and Ram Charan flew down to Chennai recently and met Shankar where the trio confirmed that film will go on floors by September.

According to the latest reports, the film’s pre-production works have already started. Moreover, this project is expected to go on floors in September now. Meanwhile, in this time, Ram Charan will look to finish Acharya and RRR and then move on to Shankar film.

Multiple plotlines and theories have been floated about the RC15. Some say that the Mega Power Star will be playing the role of a young and dynamic IAS officer fighting corruption. There is another set that believes that RC15 is going to be a re-adaptation of Shankar’s Mudhavalan (Oke Okkaddu).

Power Star’s Vakeel Saab posts decent TRP ratings

Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The movie that released on April 9th earlier this year had terrific openings and fetched great reviews. Pawan Kalyan’s performance especially was well appreciated.

However, as fate would have it, the movie’s theatrical run had to end abruptly due to Covid second wave. The movie was premiered on Amazon Prime just 20 days after its theatrical release.

Vakeel Saab had its World TV Premiere on Zee TV on July 18th. The TRP ratings are out and are not quite what was expected. The courtroom drama fetched a TRP of 19.12 and couldn’t even break into the Top 10 TRP records as expected.

Venu making a comeback after 8 years!

Venu Thottempudi, who rose to the limelight in the early 2000s with a series of light-hearted comedy films will be seen next in Ravi Teja’s Ramarao On Duty. The actor was last seen in the 2013 film Ramachari opposite Kamalini Mukherjee.

It is being reported that Venu’s role in this film is going to be serious and central to the movie’s plot. The makers of the movie, Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas made the announcement through social media and surprised everyone.

Sarath Mandava is directing this action drama which is based on certain true events. Divyansha Kaushik and Rajisha Vijayan will be in lead roles opposite Ravi Teja.

Ramarao On Duty also stars Naresh, Pavithra Lokesh, and Rahul Ramakrishna playing prominent roles. It is being bankrolled by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the banner of SLV cinemas along with RT Teamworks.

Thimmarusu theatrical business details

Satyadev starrer crime thriller, Thimmarusu is all set to release on July 30th. The movie is an official remake of the Kannada film Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni. Thimmarusu will be the first major Telugu film to hit screens after theaters were shut down in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19.

Thimmarusu has done a good pre-release business and successfully created a decent buzz amongst the moviegoers. The pre-release event was attended by Nani while the trailer launch of the movie was done by Jr NTR. The theatrical rights for Thimmarusu for both the Telugu states have been bought for ₹2.3Crs on an MG basis. The advance bookings for the movie is also picking up a decent pace.

The film stars Priyanka Jawalkar as lead actress and also features Bramhaji, Harsha Chemudu in key roles. Sricharan Pakala, known for composing music for Kshanam, PSV Garuda Vega, and Krishna and His Leela, has composed the music for this film

Nagarjuna to return with Bigg Boss on September 5th?

Bigg Boss Telugu season 5 is going to return to the small screens soon. ‘King’ Nagarjuna, who hosted the previous two seasons will return as the host for the third consecutive time this year.

This season 5 of the show will air from September 5th as per reports. Star Maa which will be screening the reality show will make an official announcement soon.

Earlier it was speculated that due to the pandemic, this year Bigg Boss Telugu will be discontinued. However, that’s not the case and the show’s unit is all geared up to hit the small screen. The selection of contestants for the show has already been completed. The final list of contestants is being kept as top-secret and will be revealed on the day of airing only.

The first season of the show was hosted by Jr NTR while Natural Star Nani took the charge of the second season. Nagarjuna has been at the helm of affairs since season 3.
