Dude Movie: Ilaiyaraaja to Take Legal Action Against Sony Music

Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja has been actively filing legal cases against filmmakers and music companies for using his songs without proper permission. The latest to face this issue is director/actor Pradeep Ranganathan’s upcoming film Dude, along with Sony Music.

For several years, audio platforms and film teams freely used popular songs without directly seeking permission from the original creators. However, Ilaiyaraaja has recently started taking legal steps against such unauthorized usage, leading to trouble for production houses and music labels.

According to reports, Ilaiyaraaja is now planning to sue Sony Music for using his song “Karutha Machan” in Dude without acquiring the necessary rights. It appears that movie teams are getting approvals from audio platforms, but those platforms themselves are not securing permission from Ilaiyaraaja.

This isn’t the first time such an issue has come up. Recently, Mythri Movie Makers’ film Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar, also ran into similar legal trouble over the use of Ilaiyaraaja’s music.

The situation highlights the growing importance of respecting music rights and ensuring proper legal clearance before using iconic tracks in films.

Sundar C Brings Vishal and Tamannaah Bhatia Together

Sundar C and Vishal’s much-delayed film (for 12 years), Madha Gaja Raja, was released in theaters for this Sankranthi/Pongal, and the director now brings Vishal and Tamannaah together for his next film. 

Director Sundar C is currently wrapping up the shoot of Mookuthi Amman 2, starring Nayanthara. While the filming is nearly complete, the movie involves heavy VFX work, so post-production is expected to take some time.

Meanwhile, Sundar C is preparing to begin his next project, bringing together Vishal and Tamannaah once again. The director had earlier worked with the duo in the 2019 film Action. This upcoming movie is said to be a full-fledged commercial entertainer filled with comedy, action, and emotional moments.

Actress Kayadu Lohar, who is gaining popularity, is also said to play another female lead in the film. According to reports, the promo shoot has already been completed, and the main shoot is likely to begin in November 2025.

Both Mookuthi Amman 2 and the new film with Vishal are planned for theatrical release in 2026. Fans can look forward to two exciting projects from Sundar C in the coming year.

Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude is trending strong at the box office, as the youthful entertainer has collected around 80 Cr gross worldwide in its 5 days of theatrical run. It is all set to become the third 100 Cr grosser for the actor.

In Tamil Nadu the film’s gross for 5 days is 40 Cr, and in the Telugu States the gross is close to 13 Cr, and 4 Cr from Karnataka, 2.7 Cr from Kerala, and 50 lakhs from the rest of India, taking the total India gross to 60 Cr.

Dude Box Office: 100 Cr Gross by this Saturday

The overseas gross of Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude is more than 19 Cr, which takes the total worldwide gross near to the number of 80 Cr for 5 days.

It is expected to achieve the 100 Cr mark by this Saturday, and it is overall a very good performance by the film, bringing profits to all the parties involved.

The box office run of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 is super consistent, and the film amazes the trade with its exceptional run in Tamil Nadu, as it achieved a shocking blockbuster status in that region. 

Kantara Chapter 1 is the prequel for the film Kantara. If we go back to 2022, the first part collected around 400 crore gross worldwide, and the film did very well in Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu. 

The first part’s Tamil version numbers were lower than Kerala’s and others. So, because of this, the expectations on Kantara Chapter 1 running in the Tamil Territories were not so big. 

Kantara Chapter 1 Tamil Nadu: Excellent Performance

But surprisingly, the Tamil Nadu rights of the Rishab Shetty directorial were sold for 32 Cr, prompting everyone to think that it could be a huge loss venture, as the breakeven is valued around 60 Cr.

However, the Tamil Nadu performance of Kantara Chapter 1 surprises everyone. Despite the new releases arriving during the Diwali festival, the spiritual action drama is continuously posting strong numbers.

For 20 days the film has crossed the 60 Cr gross mark in Tamil Nadu and achieved breakeven and entered the profit zone, and it will not settle here and is expected to do more than 75 Cr gross in its full run, as the run is fantastic for the film despite facing new releases like Dude and Bison. 

The best part is, the Kantara prequel has not only performed well in Tamil Nadu, but it also did superb numbers in the overseas territories as well.

Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Massive Numbers everywhere except Hindi

Rishab Shetty’s much-appreciated film has put massive numbers in all areas. It grossed 50 Cr in Kerala, a feat that very few dubbed films have been able to achieve. 

Coming to the Telugu States, after KGF 2, Kantara Chapter 1 is the only movie to collect more than 100 Cr gross, and in its homeland, Karnataka, the film is thebiggest grosser of all time as it achieves the 1st 200 Cr mark. 

Only in Hindi did the film register a moderate to decent performance, where it was expected to collect near the KGF 2 range, but it did not do so. Overall, the film crossed the 750 Cr gross mark worldwide and is now heading towards the 800 Cr milestone.

Now the spiritual action drama will chase the 2025 biggest grosser record, which presently stands with Vicky Kaushal’s Chaaava.
