Notably, Yatra has previously worked on Dhanush’s directorial venture Raayan, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience before stepping in front of the camera.

The debut film is expected to be a mass commercial entertainer, with the promo shoot likely to commence in Chennai soon. A grand pooja ceremony is also expected to be held in the coming days.

Velraj will handle the cinematography, while GV Prakash is likely to compose the music for the film. The casting details remain under wraps, though there is strong speculation that several prominent actors could be part of the project.

The film’s principal shooting is expected to begin either by the end of this year or early next year, making it one of the most anticipated debut projects in Tamil cinema.

Dhanush’s Directorial Journey

Dhanush made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Pa. Pandi in 2017, earning praise for his emotional storytelling. After a long gap, he returned to the director’s chair with Raayan (2024), a landmark project that also marked his 50th film as an actor.

He followed it up with Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (2025), and his fourth directorial venture was Idli Kadai (2025). With the Yatra debut film becoming his fifth directorial, Dhanush continues to expand his creative footprint in Tamil cinema.

Peddi Crosses ₹315 Crore, Becomes South India’s Top Grosser

0

Ram Charan’s Peddi has crossed ₹315 crore gross worldwide, emerging as South India’s highest-grossing film of 2026 after 12 days of theatrical run. The action drama has surpassed Karuppu‘s collections to claim the top spot, though the film’s record may not last long with several major releases lined up for the second half of the year.

Peddi Surpasses Karuppu With ₹315 Crore

Karuppu, which collected nearly ₹315 crore gross worldwide, had earlier surpassed Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu (₹300+ crore) to become the biggest South Indian grosser of recent times. Now, Peddi has edged past Karuppu with a worldwide gross exceeding ₹315 crore.

FilmWorldwide GrossStatus
Peddi₹315+ croreCurrent leader
Karuppu~₹315 croreSurpassed
Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu₹300+ croreEarlier milestone

The film is still running in theatres and is projected to finish its theatrical run around or over the ₹350 crore worldwide gross mark. However, Peddi could have reached the ₹500 crore club if it had received stronger support from other language markets and overseas territories, which underperformed compared to the domestic Telugu market.

Can Peddi Hold the South Indian Grosser Tag?

Peddi faces strong competition from several major releases scheduled for the second half of 2026. Jailer 2 is releasing later this year, Prabhas’ Fauji has a chance of arriving in December, and Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is also expected to release this year.

Among these upcoming releases, Jailer 2 has the highest chances of emerging as the biggest South Indian grosser of the year, given the massive success of the first installment and Rajinikanth’s pan-Indian appeal.

Razor OTT Release Date: Ravi Babu Film on Aha from June 19

0

Actor-director Ravi Babu‘s political action thriller Razor is set for its digital premiere on Aha. The film, which released in theatres on May 8, 2026, will begin streaming from June 19, 2026, marking a quick transition from theatrical to OTT release.

The makers officially announced the Razor digital premiere date, giving the film a chance to reach a wider audience on the popular Telugu streaming platform.

Despite generating pre-release buzz, Razor could not make a significant impact at the box office. The film received a limited response during its theatrical run and failed to emerge as a commercial success.

With its OTT debut just days away, the film will be hoping to find a new audience in the digital space.

A Political Conspiracy at the Heart of the Story

Razor revolves around a powerful politician named Kanakaraju, who murders the Chief Minister to eliminate obstacles on his path to power. The shocking crime is accidentally captured on CCTV by Vishnu, a local surveillance technician.

When Kanakaraju’s men discover the evidence, they brutally kill Vishnu and his wife. However, their young daughter survives and becomes the sole link to the truth.

At this crucial point, Rudra, an ordinary dog groomer played by Ravi Babu, enters the picture. He takes it upon himself to protect the little girl and ensure that the evidence reaches the right hands, setting the stage for an intense battle against a ruthless political force.

Cast and Technical Team

The film features Tanish Alladi, Inaya Sultana, Baby Tejal Vikhyath, and Banerjee in key roles alongside Ravi Babu.

Razor is jointly produced by Ravi Babu and Daggubati Suresh Babu, while the music is composed by Rajesh.

Will Razor’s Aha Premiere Attract Viewers?

Many films that underperformed in theatres have found appreciation on streaming platforms. Recent action thrillers like Zebra also made their digital premiere on Aha, connecting with audiences who missed the theatrical run.

With an intriguing premise involving political conspiracy, action, and emotional drama, Razor now has an opportunity to connect with OTT viewers starting June 19.

It remains to be seen whether the film can achieve the recognition it missed during its theatrical run.

New Twist in the Percentage Issue: Chamber Counters Peddi Producer’s Claims

0

Peddi Producer Distances Himself from 7.5% Revenue Sharing Proposal

The ongoing percentage-sharing issue surrounding Peddi has taken a fresh turn. Earlier, producer Venkata Satish Kilaru of Vriddhi Cinemas LLP stated that he was unaware of the proposed 7.5% revenue-sharing system linked to the film’s ticket price hike and claimed that he had neither participated in the key meeting nor consented to such a proposal.

In a letter addressed to the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, the producer reportedly expressed concern over decisions being taken without his knowledge and requested that Peddi be exempted from any new revenue-sharing arrangement.

Chamber Releases Letter to Clarify Its Stand

However, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has now released a letter that presents a different version of events. According to the Chamber, the proposal regarding the implementation of a percentage system for exhibitors of single-screen theatres was officially communicated to the producer as early as May 27, 2026.

The Chamber stated that the decision was taken during discussions involving producers, distributors, and exhibitors and that all concerned parties were informed about the proposed structure well in advance.

What Is the 7.5% Proposal?

As per the Chamber’s communication, exhibitors who benefited from the ticket price hike granted for Peddi were expected to contribute a 7.5% share of the enhanced ticket revenue for a limited period. The arrangement was reportedly designed as a mutually agreed mechanism between distributors and exhibitors.

The Chamber also noted that the proposal was intended only for the duration of the ticket price hike and would not serve as a permanent revenue-sharing model.

Producer Maintains Concerns

Despite the Chamber’s clarification, the producer’s earlier letter highlighted concerns about reopening agreements after the film’s release. He reportedly argued that distributors and exhibitors had already finalized their business arrangements and that introducing new conditions at this stage could create financial complications.

The producer also emphasized the substantial investments involved in the project and urged the Chamber to consider the interests of all stakeholders before implementing any unilateral decision.

Industry Awaits Final Resolution

With both sides now presenting their positions through official correspondence, the percentage-sharing issue regarding Peddi has become one of the most discussed topics in the Telugu film trade circle.

While Peddi continues its run at the box office, the latest exchange of letters has added a new dimension to the debate. Industry insiders are now waiting to see whether the Chamber and the film’s stakeholders can arrive at a mutually acceptable solution in the coming days.
