After delivering movies such as Swamy Ra Ra and Keshava, Sudheer Varma and Nikhil’s combo is back with a romantic crime drama Appudo Ippudo Eppudo. While the film did not make any strong noise before its release and bookings have been quite dull, the makers are hoping this combo will draw crowds to the theatres. While the fate of the movie will be decided over the weekend, let’s find out if the movie has enough punch to land Sudheer Varma and Nikhil their much-awaited success.
Story:
Rishi (Nikhil) is a race driver who relocates to London after his breakup with Tara (Rukmini Vasanth). With an ambition to make it big in life, Rishi leads a simple life when Tara re-enters his life and rekindles their romance. His life takes a dramatic turn when Rishi’s ex-girlfriend Tulasi (Divyansha Kaushik) walks into his life. With Tulasi’s entry, he gets embroiled in the world of crime. Here begins a cat-and-mouse game. Who’s Tulasi? How Rishi’s life is disturbed and how he plans to come out of it is what the movie follows
The role is tailor-made for Nikhil who fits the character’s requirements well and does a great job as a lover-boy. He looks good on screen and delivers a decent performance. Rukmini Vasanth lights up the screen with her charming presence but has little scope for performance in a poorly written role. Divyansha Kaushik is the finest of the lot and brings the much-needed push to the proceedings. Her performance as Tulasi is great and while her character may seem cliched, her performance truly stands out. The rest of the cast including John Vijay, Ajay, Satya, Viva Harsha, and Sudarshan do not have anything new to showcase.
Analysis:
For someone who has directed Swamy Ra Ra, Sudheer Varma surely disappoints here. Appudo Ippudo Eppudo follows an extremely cliched and outdated plot and presentation and the audience may find it hard to connect to the proceedings. The film suffers from outdated writing and uninspired presentation. While the production values are top-notch and actors look good on screen, you will soon find yourself bored of those and start searching for something interesting in the film. With so many plot loopholes and logical flaws, Appudo Ippudo Eppudo fails to draw the audience at any point in time.
Positives:
Negatives:
- Outdated story
- Cliched scenes
- Lack of emotional connect
- Predictability
Verdict:
Appudo Ippudo Eppudo could have been a decent watch a decade ago. However, with several films with similar backdrops already released in the last few years, the audience today expects some novelty. Strong writing and better presentation could have made the difference here. Overall, it’s a forgettable attempt from Sudheer Verma and Nikhil and their search for success continues.
