Another disastrous weekend for Tollywood

Tollywood had a rollercoaster of a year in 2023 so far. The new year started on a great note with Ravi Teja’s Dhamaka released in 2022 end continuing its blockbuster performance. Then came Sankranti where Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy both did a great job at the box office. Chiranjeevi- Ravi Teja starter emerged as a blockbuster and Balayya film also attained a hit status.

After this great start, the box office saw some slowdown and Dhanush’s Sir gave a resounding performance. Apart from Sir, only Writer Padmabhushan attracted crowds in a limited manner while films like Michael, Amigos, and Butta Bomma emerged as big failures.

March was a month of resurgence and it all started with Venu’s Balagam which surprised everyone with its terrific box-office run. The month ended with Dasara which is still doing a decent job at the Tollywood box office.

If we notice the trend, every month of the year so far has had at least two movies that had a good run. April is half over and movies like Shaakuntalam, Ravanasura, Rudrudu, and Meter have all failed to perform well. Rudrudu and Shaakuntalam in particular had a disastrous weekend at the box office, Both movies completely crashed out after a poor opening. Buyers are facing a very tough period with continuous disasters

Dil Raju is unable to handle big budget films

Dil Raju is the one who has created a separate brand and image for himself with his perfection in the script selection. He has proved his mettle with his perfect planning and set an example in delivering the quality films within a reasonable budget. In his career, he has been very much successful in making good profits with medium budget films.

Dil Raju also made very quality films with a minimal budget, even with star Heroes like Brindavanam, MR perfect, SVSC, which were films containing good content films. But somehow, recently Dil Raju is failing to put the control over the budget of his films, and even he is putting higher budgets which is resulting in him being unable to get the good content films.

If we observe his recent films like Maharshi, F3, Varisu and the latest Shaakuntalam all these film’s final budget was a lot more than the expected budget and all the films are not strong content wise as well. Especially Dil Raju’s latest film, Shaakuntalam has become a big failure.

According to the reports, Game Changer, the upcoming film of Dil Raju is also suffering the problem of over budget. The planned budget for the movie has already been crossed and still, there are more than 60 days left for the shooting of the film. We will have to wait and see how this film’s content will turn out.

Shaakuntalam becomes an epic disaster – 80 Crores budget 8 Crores gross

Shaakuntalam, director Guna Sekhar’s much-awaited mythological epic featuring Samantha in the titular role, has been released worldwide theaters this Friday. Samantha and the whole unit of the film were very confident about the success of the film before the release. However, Shaakuntalam has disappointed the audience, and now it has become an epic disaster at the Box Office.

Shaakuntalam has been made with a budget of almost 80 Crores and the gross for the 1st weekend of the film was just 8 Crores and these are the least collections for a high-budget movie. The share is not even in the range of 4 Crores and from today there is no possibility for the film to get any share. So by looking at the current situation, the closing share of the movie is 4 Crores and hence it has become an epic disaster.

The film had all the required elements to be an engaging romantic drama with a mythological backdrop, but the ineffective narration and zero emotions made the film a bland affair and the audience could not connect to the characters or the film.

Made on a massive budget, Shaakuntalam is based on the internationally acclaimed Kalidasa’s Sanskrit play ‘Abhijnana Shaakuntalam’ was released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. The film, which has been released in 3D as well, is presented by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations together with Gunaa Team works and produced by Neelima Guna.

Guna Sekhar directed Samantha’s Shaakuntalam. Dev Mohan played King Dushyant’s role in this flick, while Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha appeared as Prince Bharata. Aditi Balan, Prakash Raj, Gauthami, Madhu Bala, Sachin Khedekar, Mohan Babu and Ananya Nagalla appeared in crucial roles. Mani Sharma composed the tunes for this film.
