Gadar2 is heading towards all-time blockbuster at the box office

Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 had a massive weekend and it rained collections for this Sunny Deol Ameesha Patel starrer at the box office. Even the Monday advance bookings are super strong the numbers are expected to be on par with opening day. Tomorrow being Independence Day, the film is scheduled to register the highest day collections and is expected to surpass the humungous Day 1 and Day 2 collections with ease. At this pace, the film will easily touch Rs 400Cr and might even collect more than 500Cr nett in closing.

Despite a clash with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which resulted in restricted showcasing, particularly at multiplexes, Gadar 2 has performed phenomenally well at the box office. In Sunny Deol’s 40-year career, Gadar 2 has already established itself as his biggest hit. The 65 year old actor has expressed his gratitude to the audience all over for showering the film with such love.  

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma and has the late Amrish Puri recreated via CGI. A sequel to the 2001 hit, it is set in the 1970s and has Tara Singh (played by Sunny) to Pakistan as he tries to rescue his son.

PVR INOX cinemas generate a revenue of 40Cr in a single day

Shares of PVR Inox hit a six-month high of Rs 1,687.10, on gaining 3 percent in Monday’s intraday trade after the company said it achieved the feat of the highest-ever admissions and box office in a single day across its circuit on August 13, 2023. The largest and highest exhibitor of cinema in India said it received ~1.28 million guests and earned gross revenue of Rs 39.5 crore.

PVR Inox has been quoted at its highest level since February 2023. At 10:15 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 0.50 percent at 65,017.

The weekend of August 11th-13th, 2023 was the largest ever weekend in the company’s history. During the weekend, the company received 3.36 million guests at cinemas and generated gross box office revenue of over 100 crore rupees. This achievement was possible because of strong box office performance from stellar content of Indian Cinema.

The films released last week, including ‘Gadar 2’ (Hindi), ‘Jailer’ (Tamil) and ‘OMG 2’ (Hindi) have contributed to the growth of footfalls of PVR Inox with their successful content. Also, the films released in earlier weeks, like ‘Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani’ (Hindi) and Oppenheimer (English) have continued their steady performance.

However, still The Tamil Cinema market remains larger than the Telugu Cinema market.

Yes, there is no doubt that Rajamouli has raised the Telugu market to a new level, but the thing is other star hero films are still doing the normal range business for the Telugu market. The Tollywood films are doing good in the Hindi market, which is helping the bigger numbers bur if you take only regional numbers the picture is different.

Until now, no non SSR Movie has collected more than 300Cr gross in Telugu regions but the films in Tamil like Vikram , Ponniyin Selvan and now Rajinikanth’s Jailer have collected more than 300Cr gross with just the Tamil version itself.

Even in overseas the market of Non SSR films is not at all increased even the films with positive talk are just doing around 5 million dollars whereas Tamil star movies are doing 15Million dollars effortlessly. The Telugu filmmakers should step up and make better quality films to lessen this gap. Until then, the Tamil cinema market remains larger than the Telugu cinema market.

It is very well known to everyone that on this Independence weekend, the Telugu audiences witnessed the box office clash between Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar and Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer. While the latter has emerged as a thunderous winner, the former can not even recover the rents of the theaters.

After having a sensational weekend at the box office, Jailer is unstoppable even after Sunday in all territories, and Monday’s noon shows have started on a super strong note. The advance bookings are terrific for the other shows. The trade circles are very sure that it will garner excellent numbers tomorrow, the Independence Day.

On the other side, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar has completely crashed, as the noon shows of Monday are reporting disastrous numbers in all areas. Getting the rents for the theaters is an itself is like a big task for the film and the movie mostly will end up its run by tomorrow.

There is no doubt that both Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth are superstars. Neither of these two can be underestimated for the success they have achieved. However, the choices of films has made the difference for the results of Bhola Shankar and Jailer.

While Rajinikanth played his age and appeared as an old man in Jailer, Chiranjeevi still has not come out of the middle-aged roles and formulaic potboilers. The audiences do not object to watch commercial content, but the packaging should be trendy and a bit exciting, which is completely missing in Bhola Shankar.

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram is in its production stage with the ‘Mass Strike‘ being the only significant update made so far.
