Before the release, in a press interaction, Darshan had received a question that Salaar is coming for Christmas and whether it can damage Kaatera. He replied strongly that “Why should I worry about a dubbed film, Kaatera is a Kannada film made for Kannada audiences and I believe in the Kannada audience. Salaar team has to worry about releasing the film against us”. He denied needing to back off or change his plans because of movies which are made by Non-Kannadigas.

The film, Salaar which was released on 22nd December, opened very well in Karnataka but failed to continue the same momentum and now the film’s Gross is around 40Cr. Kaatera which was released on 29th December, is working huge at the box office. The movie opened with 8.5Cr Gross and 4 days Gross is close to 26Cr. The film maintained solid occupancies today as well and it is expected to cross Salaar collections by this weekend. The film will win by a good margin on Salaar.

Kaatera movie is set in 1970s. The film highlights the social issues that are still prevalent. The movie was released on December 29th. Directed by Tarun Sudhir, the film also has Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu in ab important role. This movie has given Aradhana Ram, who is the daughter of the queen of dreams Malashri, a great start in the Kannada film industry as an actress.

Prashanth Neel’s action drama Salaar could have easily broken the records of Baahubali if the Tamil audiences had encouraged it. In Telugu, Hindi, and Kerala Salaar has already crossed Baahubali 1. Even though there is much difference between Salaar and Baahubali 1 in Karnataka, it has been covered by the lead Salaar got in other territories.

Excluding Tamil Nadu Baahubali first part’s Gross is 520 Cr and Salaar Gross is also 520 Cr now. But Baahubali had collected 80Cr in Tamil Nadu whereas Salaar managed to gather just 20 Cr. So the 60Cr difference between Salaar and Baahubali is stopping the former in reaching the latter. To cover the gap, the Hindi and Telugu version’s numbers are key from today for Salaar.

Ravi Teja’s Eagle is releasing on 13th January and will compete for Sankranthi supremacy with Guntur Kaaram, Hanuman, Saindhav, Naa Saami Ranga. The trailer and songs have been released already but did not create much buzz for the film. The movie is struggling to find buyers and good theatrical business so the producers have decided to go for their own release. T. G. Vishwa Prasad and Vivek Kuchibhotla are bankrolling this action-thriller under People Media Factory. 

Other producers and several distributors have requested the Eagle makers to postpone the release but the makers are not in favour of doing so and sticking to a Sankranthi release. Now the distributors are facing very tough challenges to lock the theatres for the film due to the presence of other films that have created better buzz and are backed by bigger names in the industry.

The distributors are even suggesting the makers to postpone the release of Eagle to 26th January. It is a public holiday, has a weekend advantage, and a scope for a huge release. As of now the film is not carrying a huge buzz and might get a limited release. This is an extremely risky situation to release and the close circle of producers are suggesting they postpone. Need to see whether they will be convinced in the next 2-3 days or stick to the same plan.
