‘Thalapathy’ Vijay: A Pan-Indian Star, Says Atlee.

Atlee Kumar, the director who’s basking under the massive success of his last theatrical outing Jawan (2023), has made some hot comments about ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, that raised a lot of eye-brows in trade.

In the recent interaction with media, Atlee lavished praise on the Pan-Indian success of KGF series and Pushpa: The Rise (2021). He went on to say that ‘Rocking Star’ Yash and Allu Arjun are now Pan-Indian names with market across languages. But what made headlines on social media is his inclusion of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay’s Leo in the same list of KGF series & Pushpa; putting Yash & Allu Arjun in the same bracket.

Vijay is undoubtedly the biggest star of Tamil Cinema with good market in Telugu and Malayalam as well; his last venture Leo (2023) worked big time across territories. But, admittedly, it ended up as a dud at Hindi box-office. Not a single film of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay has shown any impact in Hindi belt. If thats the case, how is he a ‘Pan-Indian’ star? How can Leo be compared to the legendary KGF series?

In fact, all the recent blockbusters of Kollywood like Vikram, Jailer, Ponniyan Selvan series have also flopped at the Mumbai box-office. Having said that, fans across languages, particularly those of Yash and Allu Arjun, have started trolling Atlee for his immature comments exaggerating Vijay’s stardom.

Ooru Peru Bhairavakona – An Average Hit

Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, a fantasy thriller film starring Sandeep Kishan in the lead role; directed by VI Anand. With music composed by Shekhar Chandra, it also stars Kavya Thapar and Varsha Bollamma in key roles.

Owing to Sandeep’s current form, the film didn’t carry much buzz among audiences. However, the makers made a bold move by screening early premiers a day before the theatrical release, which according to them has worked big time. Capitalizing on this positive talk, the film managed to put up a good show in the first three days collecting a total worldwide share of INR 7 crore. Despite the drop on weekdays, it minted a share of around INR 8 crore so far. With no films in competition, it remains the first choice of audiences in this week as well.

With the film’s breakeven mark standing at a modest INR 11 crore, it is expected to end up as an ‘Above Average’ venture for buyers; the film has already entered the profit zone in USA. This is surely a breathe of fresh air for Sandeep Kishan who had faced continous setbacks lately.

Article 370 Heading Towards Super Hit

Yami Gautam starrer Article 370 was released yesterday and opened with unanimous positive reviews and very good numbers. The film opened with Rs 6Cr nett in India and 9Cr worldwide on opening day gross which is extraordinary considering the film’s budget and starcast.

One of the biggest reasons for such good openings was the PVR INOX 99rs ticket offer on opening day which helped a large audience to view the movie first day. From today, regular prices will be applicable but word of mouth is positive and it will lead to higher collections. Day 2 collections are expected to be 30% higher than day 1 and Day 3 is expected to go bigger than day 1. The film heading towards Super hit status with this trend.

Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 stars Priyamani, Arun Govil, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Koul, KiranKarmarkar. The film revolves around counter-terrorism efforts in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. The film was also boosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appreciation for showcasing the true story of the Kashmir insurgency and events that followed the change of status of Jammu & Kashmir in 2019.

Nani’s Lineup: Super Strong and Incredibly Versatile

Nani is in great form with back-to-back successful films in 2023 in the form of Dasara and Hi Nanna. Both films showcased the versatility of Nani and proved why he is regarded as one of the finest performers of Tollywood. After these two unique movies, Nani has lined up three extremely interesting projects in the form of Vivek Athreya’s Saripoda Sanivaaram, Venu’s rural drama and Sujeeth’s untitled project.

The glimpse of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram was released yesterday on Nani’s birthday and received good response. This time Vivek Athreya has come out of his comfort zone and looks like he will be trying out a commercial movie with a unique point. 

After this, Nani signed his next two films with Venu and Sujeeth. Venu who rose to prominence after Balagam will be directing the Natural Star under Dil Raju productions and the movie has reportedly been titled Yellamma. It is also said to be a rural emotional drama.

Post this, a project with Sujeeth has been signed under DVV productions which will start after OG. It will be a big-budget project packed with stylish commercial elements and action. With such a diverse filmography and a unique lineup of projects, Nani has managed to create great buzz for his films.

OG vs Game Changer: Ram Charan Threatens Pawan Kalyan

Ram Charan gained significant recognition with RRR worldwide. However, a recent film where he had an extended cameo appearance, Acharya, failed badly. Even though it wasn’t a movie where he was the main hero, fans were disappointed. They hoped that the game-changer movie would demonstrate Ram Charan’s market and capabilities. Originally planned for a 2023 release, the film’s shoot has been continuously delayed due to the entry of Indian 2. However, it’s still ongoing, with the entire shoot expected to be completed by June this year.

Until now, everyone expected Indian 2 to release in August or September. Gamechanger was likely to be pushed to 2025 or Christmas this year. But now, there’s a huge buzz that Indian 2 is coming in May, and a teaser with the release date announcement is expected in a few days. The Game Changer movie team is said to be considering September 27th for release.

OG vs Game Changer

On the same date, September 27th, OG was officially announced for release. DVV Danayya recently confirmed that Pawan Kalyan will join the shoot in May. The entire shoot will be completed by June. After post-production works begin, the movie will be released on September 27th as planned. The Pawan Kalyan films released before are different from OG. OG is a straight big-budget and heavy-action film that created a huge buzz with glimpses and posters.

On the other side, the Game Changer movie team is considering September 27th as an appropriate date for a pan-India release. Since both Shankar and Ram Charan have global recognition, the makers want the film to perform well in all languages. So, they are aiming for a blockbuster date for all languages.

If the Game Changer team sticks to September 27th, it will directly threaten Pawan Kalyan’s film. The OG vs Game Changer clash is on. The entry of Game Changer in this period will also have a direct effect on Devara, which was announced on October 10th. The release date is just two weeks apart from these films. Fans and even audiences want both Game Changer and RRR to clash. After RRR’s release, fans have been continuously fighting for credits. These clashes between Game Changer and Devara will decide who has the bigger market between NTR and Ram Charan with RRR.

Chitralahari sequel is in the works

Chitralahari is one of the best films in Sai Dharam Tej’s career. The movie was released silently, without much buzz or hype, and went on to become a box-office success thanks to positive word of mouth. Through Chitralahari, Sai Dharam Tej delivered a strong comeback film after a series of continuous failures.

The movie became a favourite for many audience and continues to receive positive response on Television. Now the buzz is that Mythri Movie Makers and Kishore Tirumala who directed the first part as well are planning for the film’s sequel.

Meanwhile, Sai Dharam Tej took a break and planned to start a film with Sampath Nandi but the film is in financial trouble as the OTT business is not working out like before. The makers of Sai Dharam Tej- Sampath Nandi film are trying to revise the budget and if it does not work out, it could be shelved.

The romantic comedy was released in 2019 and went on to become the year’s biggest small movie. The film starred Sai Dharam Tej, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Nivetha Pethuraj, while Sunil, Vennela Kishore, and Posani Krishna Murali were also seen in key roles.

Yatra 2 OTT streaming partner and release details

Yatra 2 OTT Streaming details are now unveiled. Mahi V Raghav’s Yatra 2 was released earlier this month amidst extremely low buzz and unfavorable reviews. This Jeeva and Mammootty starter couldn’t replicate the success of its 2019 released prequel and emerged as a box-office failure.

Yatra 2 OTT Details:

Yatra part 1 digital rights were bought by Prime Video and producers are in discussions with the streaming giant for part 2 as well. The deal is said to be almost finalized. Yatra 2 OTT streaming is expected on Amazon Prime Video from March 2nd week.

Mahi V Raghav’s Yatra 2 a sequel of his 2019 film is set to release on 8th February. The film is not a usual entertainer and is loaded with political references and agendas. It chronicles the life of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy after the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his subsequent Padayatra against the wishes of the Congress high command.

With elections approaching in AP later this year, YSRCP supporters pinned high hopes on this film. Unfortunately, the film couldn’t live up to the expectations. The makers hope OTT streaming will reach the film to audiences.

February: A Disastrous Month for Theatres

Many small and medium-budget films have been released in February. Unfortunately, none of these films were able to sustain after the weekend and even many films failed to sustain in 1st weekend itself. The total theatre revenue is projected to be less than 50Cr for February. Post Sankranti, no movie has collected a double-digit share in Telugu states which shows how the movies are performing at the Box office. 

Tollywood’s entire hopes are on summer releases. Next week, Varun Tej’s Operation Valentine is slated for release. The movie has not managed to create the buzz as expected. Adding to that Varun Tej is in terrible form with back-to-back disasters in the form of a need to see whether it will bring success from a disastrous phase after delivering a big flop in the form of Gandeevadhari Arjuna.

So far all the February releases such as Ambajipeta Marriage Band, Yatra 2, Eagle, and Ooru Peru Bhairavakona have failed to set the box office on fire. It needs to be seen if upcoming movies like Tillu Square, Bhima, and Gaami can make some amends.

Hero Gopichand’s unique action entertainer Bhimaa is one of the most awaited movies of the season. The film is directed by A Harsha and produced lavishly by KK Radhamohan under the banner of Sri Sathya Sai Arts. From the teaser to the songs, every promo of the movie received a good response from all corners. As the release date is not far away, the makers increased the dose in promotions. Meanwhile, they unleashed the theatrical trailer of the movie.

The trailer opens by showing the spiritual side of the movie. Parasurama is the sixth avatar among the Dashavatara of the savior god Vishnu. He created a wonderful land called Parasurama Kshetram by sending back the ocean with his axe. When demons trouble the innocent with their cruelty, the Lord sends Brahma Rakshasudu to stop them. He is a ruthless cop who announces war on the demons. The trailer also introduces the other character of Gopichand.A Harsha who is already a proven director in Kannada has come up with a larger-than-life story and he rightly included the spiritual and other layers impeccably. Gopichand has appeared in two completely diverse characters. While he looks merciless as a cop, the other avatar is much more frightening. Gopichand delivered a power-packed performance.

Although the trailer showed the other characters including heroines Priya Bhavani Shankar and Malvika Sharma, the main concentration was only on Gopichand’s two characters and also to establish the core elements of the movie.Swamy J Gowda’s cinematography is impressive, while Ravi Basrur’s background score is riveting. The dialogues are impactful. The high production values and strong technical output make this look grand all through. The trailer surely sets the ball rolling for the movie.

Ramana Vanka is the production designer and Thammiraju is the editor. Kiran is an online editor, while Ajju Mahankali provides dialogues. The movie has fights choreographed by Ram-Lakshman, Venkat, and Dr. Ravi Varma.Bhimaa is getting ready for release on March 8th for Maha Shivaratri.
