Nani and Sai Pallavi’s period drama Shyam Singha Roy has been sent to the Oscars. It was released in theatres a few months ago and failed to make a solid impact. Although it did decently well at the box office, it did not deliver up to expectations.
Later when it was released on Netflix, love came pouring in from all directions for the movie and it was deemed an instant classic. It was trending on Netlfix for weeks and received critical acclaim from a large section of the audience.
This is also a worrying trend for Nani as off-late his films are not doing so great at the box office but they are receiving a lot of love on OTT. There is no doubt that appreciation is necessary for any film but box office revenue is also very important.
But all is not sad as Shyam Singha Roy is running for 3 Oscar nominations. It is in contention for Best Periodic Film, Best Background Score, and Best Classical Cultural Dance Indie Film. There is a very high chance that Shyam Singha Roy gets nominated in one category at least at the Oscars.
The best Periodic Film category seems very apt for the film as the movie was beautifully shot in old Kolkata locations. Moreover, the costumes, dialogues, and set designs were executed well also. There is also a very good chance in the Best Classical Cultural Dance Category. Sai Pallavi’s mesmerizing dance moves were a great plus to the film. Her gracious dance movies in Pranavalaya were a treat to watch.
