The immediate OTT releases after the theatrical release of the movies have definitely caused a dent to the trade of many movies. In some cases, producers are releasing movies in just 20 days post-release in order to get better deals.

Now all this is going to change, said Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers. Speaking at a recent event, the producer said that the Producers Council will come up with an agreement on 1st July where they will decide to fix the OTT release only after 50 days of the movie’s release.

This step has been taken in order to preserve the theatre business and trade of Tollywood. The audience are choosing to wait out for OTT release instead of going to theatres. This increased gap will definitely help theatres thrive.

Y Ravi Shankar also added that earlier the movies were released immediately on OTT as the makers had to recover the losses they incurred during the pandemic. “Now things are getting better and pandemic movies have been released. Hence all movies from now on will abide by the 50-day rule,” he added.
