Jigarthanda Double X was released for Diwali and competed against Karthi’s Japan. Both critically as well as in terms of box-office numbers, this Karthik Subbaraj film performed comparatively better than the Karthi starter. However, the film didn’t exactly perform as well as expected despite having several favourable factors working for it.
The movie was made on a budget of 100Cr and was the sequel to the super hit film Jigarthanda. This time it featured even bigger stars like Lawrence and SJ Suryah and still failed to get a good opening in theatres. While the film started with very low opening numbers, due to its good content and great WOM, it witnessed a big jump over Diwali days. But after the holidays the weekdays saw a big slump and the film has not managed to recover big collections.
In Telugu, Jigarthanda Double X is a washout and even the Lawrence brand failed big time. For its 1st week, the movie collected close to 45Cr gross overall. It was expected that due to its content, combination, and genre, the film would collect a minimum of 100Cr and would reach 150Crs worldwide by now. But looking at its current pace, reaching 100Cr also looks impossible and it is likely to end up around 75Cr gross. To make this equation better, the film needs a massive 2nd weekend but it is likely to get hit by the World Cup final match on Sunday.
