Karthi’s Japan was released across theatres today amidst massive anticipation thanks to Karthi’s unique characterization. He promoted the film aggressively in Telugu and looks like that has helped the film significantly. The noon shows opened on an excellent note with very good occupancies. Several theatres registered housefuls as well which was unexpected.
In Tamil Nadu, the film opened on a very poor note. Occupancy-wise, Telugu states provided a bigger opening than Tamil for noon shows. While it was the star power of Karthi in Telugu states that led to this opening, the film, unfortunately, has received below-par reviews and ratings, and continuing the same momentum is very tough.
Normally Lawrence films open very well in Telugu states, especially in mass centers. Even his recent film Chandramukhi 2 had decent openings. Coming to today’s releases, Jigarthanda Double X registered poor numbers and Karthi’s Japan dominated the other Tamil films completely. The positive sign for Jigathanda Double X is that it opened with good reports and can pick up well over the weekend. The same can’t be said about Karthi’s Japan
