Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was released in theatres today amidst all the hate and boycott slogans around the movie. There have been active boycott campaigns against Laal Singh Chaddha and Aamir Khan up until the release today.
Though most of these boycott campaigns have been due to silly reasons, it looks like it has ultimately affected the film’s opening day. Laal Singh Chaddha opened with disastrous numbers on the opening day. Moreover, the reviews have been poor and average, at best.
Now, this begs the question as to whether the Bollywood audiences have boycotted Laal Singh Chaddha or Aamir in general. The reason for boycotting his films is people seem to believe that Aamir is an anti-nationalist. Aamir has been labeled as an anti-nationalist many times In his career, even though there are no indications of the same.
But these boycott campaigns have never tainted his box office stamina before. But for the very first time, it feels like Aamir Khan is in a dangerous position. Aamir’s films usually open to amazing numbers but Laal Singh Chaddha has fallen flat on its face.
It is also not helping that the film has registered poor reviews and breakeven will be a Herculean task at this rate. One can only hope that Aamir comes back stronger the next time.
