Story: Shiva (Naga Chaitanya) is an honest police constable, who wants to do his duty sincerely. One night, Shiva plans to take his girlfriend Revathi (Krithi Shetty) from her marriage but on the way he finds himself between the fight of CBI Officer George (Sampath), and a criminal Raju (Aravind Swamy) and locks both of them in a cell without knowing their identities. Just when Shiva gets to know that George is indeed a CBI Officer, tension arises as an attack happens on the police station and Shiva in retaliation and flees away with George and Raju. What happened after that? Does Shiva succeed in his mission of getting the criminals punished? How is IG Nataraj involved in this case? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
Analysis: Set in 1996, the film opens in a village near Rajahmundry. A bomb blast which kills 40 people and after that, Shiva’s character introduced followed by a love track which fails to get any impact and the family scenes were just ok and the narration moves at an ordinary pace until the character of Raju gets introduced. Thereafter, the police station fight and Pre Interval chase came well because of which first half ends on a promising note.
The second half starts interestingly but suffers because of the predictability in a few episodes, but what keeps the momentum is the determination of Shiva and the nonchalant attitude of Raju. The climax safely done.
Performances: Naga Chaitanya looked good and performed very well. Arvind Swamy is the show stealer of the entire cast as he gets a meaty role, and he makes full use of it. Krithi Shetty made her presence felt, while Priyamani, Sarath Kumar, Goparaju Ramana were appropriate.
Plus Points:
- Storyline
- Action Sequences
- Raju’s Characterization
- Background Score
Minus Points:
- A few boring parts
- Some dragged fights in Second Half
- Songs
- Love Track in first half
Verdict: Custody is a watchable action thriller, though it has its share of flaws. The narration works well for the most of the parts but the director Venkat Prabhu had taken care of the other filler parts, the movie could have been stronger.
