Story
Vishwanath & Sons follows Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), a wealthy industrialist and skilled sharpshooter. Unmarried at 40+, he decides to have a baby through surrogacy for his mother. Maddy (Mamitha Baiju), the surrogate mother of Sanjay’s baby, falls in love with him. The rest of the film explores how he handles this situation and how their relationship finds the right destiny.
Performances
Suriya delivers a commanding performance in the title role, carrying the film on his shoulders with his trademark intensity. Mamitha Baiju once again impresses with her energetic and natural performance, bringing warmth to her character. Veteran actress Radhika Sarathkumar performs admirably in a crucial role, adding weight and depth to the narrative. Raveena Tandon, Suneel Reddy, Nazar, and others deliver competent performances.
Analysis
Venky Atluri, known for blending family and youthful elements in his earlier films, previously tried a different path with Sir, and now returns to his family-meets-youth genre with Vishwanath & Sons.
The film’s main storyline is definitely interesting. Though it takes some time to establish the setup, the first half delivers a neat impact. The interactions between Suriya and Mamitha grow increasingly impressive as the film progresses. The pre-interval scenes and the Butterfly song work particularly well, ending the first half on a high note.
The second half, however, shifts to familiar territory after an emotional turn, making things feel predictable. While the Ooty wedding scenes offer fun and touching moments with well-written dialogues, the overall narrative starts feeling formulaic. The spark from the lead pair’s early scenes gradually fades as the story follows a conventional path.
Towards the climax, several scenes land effectively with perfectly crafted dialogues, and the ending is sensibly handled.
