Yash is undeniably one of the most notable pan-Indian stars after Prabhas and Allu Arjun. His portrayal of Rocky in Prasanth Neel’s KGF series took the country by storm, and every film appearance of his is now highly anticipated among the masses. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Yash has been extremely selective with his projects in the post-KGF era.
Unlike Prabhas, who went on to star in the quick-production Saaho after the Baahubali series, the “Rocking Star” seems to have taken a slow-burn approach to script selection. The Kannada actor has been associated with just one film in a lead role since the KGF franchise: Toxic. Naturally, expectations surrounding the project have continued to soar over the years.
Promosing New Venture
Subtitled A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the film is being mounted on a massive scale with the ambition of appealing to audiences across the globe. The fact that it is being shot in English alongside Kannada is a testament to the makers’ ambitious release plans. As a result, Toxic has emerged as one of the most closely watched Indian productions in recent times.
Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth, the film is directed by Malayalam filmmaker Geethu Mohandas. Co-written and co-produced by Yash, Toxic was initially slated to hit the big screens in April 2025. However, things did not go as planned for the ambitious venture.
Stalled Mommentum
The film went through production hell, with its release date being revised multiple times before moving to March and later June 2026. Amidst this, several media outlets reported rumors of creative differences between Yash and the director. The repeated delays only fueled speculation, leading many to question the film’s progress and eventual prospects.
Adding salt to the wound, Toxic became embroiled in multiple controversies, including allegations of mass deforestation, complaints regarding obscene scenes in the teaser, and even claims of hurting religious sentiments. Tackling these issues one after another, the makers have now fixed a release in August 2026. While we hope the action drama arrives as scheduled, the Yash-starrer must pull off a miracle to emerge as a commercial success given its numerous postponements, legal troubles, and underwhelming buzz.
