Captain Miller Final Box-Office Verdict

Kollywood’s box-office witnessed a clash of biggies for Pongal 2024: Dhanush-starrer Captain Miller (2024) and Shiva Karthikeyan’s sci-fi drama Ayalaan (2024). While both flicks received applause, the latter emerged as a bigger grosser than the former.

In fact, the Dhanush-starrer performed poorly at the ticket window and emerged as a cost failure for the people involved in the film’s economics. The film’s poor run can be attributed to the high costs involved, mixed word-of-mouth, and, of course, having Ayalaan in competition. Made on a budget of 120 crore INR, it’s the most expensive film in Dhanush’s career.

Despite the good opening figures, the film managed to mint just 38 crore INR at the Tamil Nadu box office in the long run, which is subpar considering the breakeven. While the film performed well in Karnataka and Kerala, it is a complete failure in its dubbed versions of Telugu and Hindi. Film collected around 17 crores from overseas.

Overall, the film’s total worldwide gross stands at an unimpressive 70 crore INR, pushing the distributors and producers into significant losses. Originally announced as a three-part saga, the film’s sequels are likely to be shelved considering the first part’s poor performance. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the action drama film also stars Priynka Arul Mohan and Shiva Rajkumar. Bankrolled by Sendhil Thyagarajan’s Sathya Jyothi Films, the film’s music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
