Adipurush In Talks For Early OTT Release

Prabhas’ magnum opus Adipurush was released in theatres on June 16th and it is no breaking news that the film opened to disastrous reviews across the board. The film has also stirred up a lot of controversy for its portrayal of the Ramayana.

In the midst of all of this, it is being reported that Adipurush might get an early OTT release. Originally the makers had signed a deal with the streaming platform to release the film after 8 weeks of its theatrical run.

But now, Amazon Prime Video, who owns the film’s digital rights, are asking the makers to rethink their decision. It has been only 2 weeks since the release of Adipurush but the shows have already begun to decrease by a huge margin. In some places, Adipurush has been completely removed.

As a result, Amazon is asking for an early OTT release, as early as the 3rd week of July. This would mean that Adipurush will release on OTT within just 4 weeks of its theatrical run. Despite desperate attempts to lower ticket prices and aggressive promotions, it looks Adipurush’s theatrical run is almost over. But we will have to wait and see whether the makers will accept Amazon’s request.

Adipurush is a modern-day adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. It stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. It has been written and directed by Om Raut, with dialogues by Manoj Muntashir. The music is by Ajay-Atul.
