2022 was an interesting year for Tollywood. While some highly anticipated projects such as Radhe Shyam and Acharya, Godfather failed to get the cash registers ringing, smaller films like Sita Ramam, Karthikeya 2, and DJ Tillu managed to catch the fancy of filmgoers. Big stars had a mixed bag and it was the smaller heroes who managed to rule the roost with blockbuster collections. Let’s take a look at the Top 5 Tollywood box office grossers of 2022.
RRR – No surprises here that this SS Rajamouli magnum opus emerged as the biggest Tollywood grosser of the year. The film stood up to its pre-release hype and managed to win accolades and awards all round the world. RRR Telugu collected a worldwide share of Rs 365.8 crores and while it was expected to do more, the fans and makers would be happy with the cultural impact it had all over.
Sarkaru Vaari Paata– Starring Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh in the lead role, Sarkaru Vaari Paata didn’t exactly create a storm at the box office. The film, however, managed to stay afloat and perform decently due to Super Star Mahesh’s box-office pull. Directed by Parasuram, the action entertainer collected Rs 117.7 crores share.

KGF 2 – The Kannada blockbuster managed to perform exceedingly well in every market in India. The film was a massive success in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and in the northern states. However, it was the Yash starrer’s run at the Tollywood box office that surprised many. The film was received on par with Telugu Tier-1 heroes and did a Rs 100 crores business in Telugu Version alone.
Bheemla Nayak – Power Star Pawan Kalyan starter Bheemla Nayak was expected to do huge business at the box office. However, the tickets issue in AP coupled with political reasons created a dent in the movie’s collection. The film released to great buzz but mixed reviews and it was Power Star’s energetic performance that managed to get the movie rolling and it ended up with Rs 91.37 crores share

Radhe Shyam– The year started on a rough note for Tollywood. Prabhas Radhe Shyam released amidst massive hype and fans were excited to catch their idol on screen after almost 3 years. Radhe Shyam opened to mostly negative reviews and director Radha Krishna’s screenplay further dampened the movie’s performance. Even Prabhas’ stardom couldn’t save the movie from sinking and Radhe Shyam ended up collecting just Rs 71 crores at the Tollywood box office as opposed to the theatrical business of Rs 140 crores.
