Story:
The story of Vidaamuyarchi revolves around Arjun and Kayal, a pair that opts to go their separate ways after 12 years, delving into the causes of their breakup. Arjun offers to take Kayal to her parents’ house one last time, but their road trip transforms into a horror story when Kayal goes missing. The rest of the story explores what twists and turns did Arjun face while finding the whereabouts of his wife.
Performances:
Ajith Kumar tried his best to portra and character of Arjun and carry the film, but the weak characterization did not help him. He did not get a chance to show his usual mass moments in this film. Trisha is present for a while in the first half and then goes missing. Regina and Arjun were okay. Their characters had interesting beginning, but didn’t continue the same impact.
Analysis:
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi directed by Magizh Thirumeni is inspired by a Hollywood film called Breakdown. The film is a road trip thriller, which is a familiar genre in foreign languages. The narrative needed many changes to make the film an appealing one. However, Director Magizh Thirumeni failed to do the job well. The first half starts on a simple tone and moves slowly, without impact. The twists towards interval could have been handled better. The second starts on a good note, and the pace is better than the first half.
However, the villains’ backstory is not much interesting, and the way Hero fights backs them is also not shown effectively. The character of Hero is passive for most of the parts, which is not suitable for a star like Ajith. The climax comes better, but it had a convenient feel. Anirudh’s background score was standard and nothing extraordinary.
Positives:
- Stylish Presentation
- Interval Episode
- Few Elevation Scenes in the Second Half
Negatives:
- Dull Narration
- Weak Characterization for Hero/Villains
- Lack of Proper Emotional Connect
Vidaamuyarchi Movie Review and Verdict:
Vidaamuyarchi is a boring and stretched out action thriller. A few twists and in the first half and some episodes in the second half work well, but besides that, the film turns out to be a disappointing one.
