Mohanlal starrer Drishyam 2 which released earlier this year on OTT received rave reviews and surpassed expectations. The prequel was also a huge success and was remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. The Telugu remake, Venkatesh’s Drushyam also repeated the success of the original and was well received by the audience. Recently Venkatesh completed his part on Drushyam 2 in a record time. The film has completed more than half of its shoot and will be up for release in June.
It is being reported that the makers have received a great deal from an OTT platform. They are now considering various options before releasing it directly digitally. This seems to be a good decision considering the Covid second wave and the restrictions on release and theatre capacity.
Incidentally, Mohanlal’s Drishyam 2 also release directly on Amazon Prime back in February. If Venkatesh releases the movie directly, he would become the first TFI biggie to have done so. This might set a good precedent for others considering the current situation.
Earlier last year, Surya had released his Soorarai Pottru directly on Amazon Prime and the movie was received well by all. It is to be seen now if Venkatesh follows the suit or waits out till the situation outside improves.
