Dhanush starrer Vaathi/SIR was released on Friday, and since then, the film is winning the hearts of the audience and performing successfully at the box office as well. In the film, Dhanush is a third-grade junior lecturer at Tripathi Educational Institutes, where he stands against the institutes for their willful methods to make education a business.
The first weekend collections of the film are out, and it is clear that Vaathi/SIR has opened to good word of mouth from the audiences. The film already created a positive buzz with the paid premiere screenings before the release day and with consistent numbers, it crossed Rs 50 crore gross worldwide.
The bilingual film marks Dhanush’s debut in the Telugu language, where it has been released as SIR. Both versions are performing well at the box office.
The Telugu version has collected around 18 Crores gross for 3 days and the Tamil version has collected 32 Crores and overall, the film has collected over 50 Crores gross on the 1st weekend. In Telugu states the film has collected over 16 Crores gross and in Tamil Nadu too it secured in the same range with over 16 Crores. From overseas, the movie has collected 1.2 Million.
Vaathi/SIR further stars Samyuktha Menon, P. Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, and Samuthirakani in key roles. The story revolves around a teacher, who stands up to a greedy entrepreneur’s bid to privatize education, and ensures that students at his government school receive excellent results.
The film is directed by Venky Atluri, and it is produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Trivikram under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. GV Prakash composed music for this film.
