Tough Times Ahead For Theatres In Telugu States

The season of Sankranthi and grand movie releases are usually synonymous with the month of January. But this year, there is little to cheer for during Sankranthi. It is a tough road for theatres during the Sankranthi season.

The film industry is going through a lot of issues simultaneously. The producers, distributors, and theatre owners are the ones suffering the most.

On one hand, there is the issue of poor ticket rates in Andhra Pradesh, due to which many theatres are running under a loss. Many prominent and famous theatres have also closed down operations due to this.

To add to the misery, the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron, is on the rise in India again. Due to this many theatres are running under very low occupancy. With big movies like RRR and Radhe Shyam also being postponed, distributors are finding it very hard to recover their money back.

The only notable release of this Sankranthi is the Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya starrer Bangarraju. Nagarjuna has openly said that he is okay with the ticket rates in AP because he is producing Bangarraju himself. These are very tough times for theatres in the two Telugu states of AP and TS ahead of Sankranthi.
