It is known that this Pongal, there’s a competition between Thalapathy Vijay and Thala Ajith at the Tamil box office. Both movies have officially announced that they are going to release on the occasion of the Pongal festival. However, both movie hasn’t declared their actual release date yet.
While the Thunivu movie is planned for Sankranthi/Pongal release, it seems that there are no takers for the film except in its motherland. In Tamil Nadu movie rights have been bought by red giant movies but in other languages, the movie is not getting any offers from buyers.
In Telugu states, it is still not known whether the movie will release or not because Ajith doesn’t have any market here. In Kerala also usually Ajith has a very low market so buyers are not interested to quote any huge prices and the same can be with the overseas and Karnataka areas.
So if we look overall excluding Tamil Nadu in the rest of the territories Varisu business will be more than double the range of Thunivu.
Manju Warrier is playing the female lead role in the film and recently she has completed her dubbing for the film. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Studios acquired the distribution rights of Thunivu in Tamil Nadu. Whereas Vijay’s upcoming bilingual Varisu/Vaarasadu, with director Vamshi Paidipally is promising to make it huge in the theatres this Pongal.
This is just the second time in eight years that Ajith and Vijay are releasing their films on the same day. Incidentally, all those years back, the clash once again happened on a Pongal day in 2014 with Veeram and Jilla.
Made as an action thriller, Thunivu also features Samuthirakani, John Kokken, and Veera in prominent roles. Ghibran is scoring music for the film.
