The making style of Top Actors films has changed in recent years, with many makers opting for a Pan India appeal and release. This also increased the budget levels and theatrical business. But profits are not encouraging with a few films’ disastrous performances. Before Corona, Distributors situation was different with equal risk and reward. But now they have lost it and are completely frustrated with the concept of big budget films.
The OTT consumption has also become huge for the audience, with some not opting for the theatre experience. This is also taking a big toll on the Distributors and Producers. Intending to get huge profits, they are buying these films for huge prices, which is not resulting in their way. They are unable to recover the bought price even with an average and good word of mouth, let alone the profit and commission.
If the film fails with a negative word of mouth, then recovering even 40% is becoming a herculean task. This has seriously affected a few theatres, which shut their operations, followed by a few distribution offices as well.
A Gratitude Meet has been organised by the Distributors of Sankranthiki Vasthunam today, where they expressed the same in their words. They stated they had seen only 20% profit commission in recent times, even with big-budgeted films. They even vented out their anger on a few big-budgeted films that lacked proper content in them.
